OK so this works pretty well but you have to flip it upside down from the way it is in the picture. It forms a perfect seal when you insert the funnel

Works great with the "13cm Dia. (5.1") Filter Funnel, Buchner Style - 2 Parts, Polypropylene, Designed for 11-12.5cm Filter Paper". Didn't have to alter it at all. It does smell like rubber, but what do you expect? It is rubber!

Thanks Amazon reviewers for some great tips. I have one of my own. Bear in mind both the funnel and flask opening diameters are important considerations. I'm using a 2 liter, heavy wall flask with a 13cm funnel which has a stem at least 1.25"ø. After my fail I decided the rubber disk was to stiff and not seated well along the stem. My solution was to place the disk in a 150°F water bath for 15 mins and gently press it onto the funnel stem with a section of PVC pipe. The disk seated fully against the funnel and flared beautifully. I achieved sufficient vacuum with a hand pump. I ran cold beeswax around the flask lip. See photo.

Filter aid works, personally I'd like it better if it was a bit more flexible. It does work fine and as long as it does not harden with age should out last me.

good solid heavy glass - works well. No chips or scratches, not the cheap feather light glass stuff I often see

Ver bad product! It looks solid and hard. It is leaking during filtration. You will regret to buy it with such price. Highly not recommended! I will not buy it again.

the seal between this thing and the filter flask is hard to establish and maintain - the material is kind of hard, so perhaps it cannot conform enough to the top of the filter flask to make a good seal. With a strong and steady suction this may be less of an issue, but it did not work well for me. I'll probably try a drilled rubber stopper next.
