This is a pretty cool and handy slate set. It's a bit big, especially the design of the "super pencil" - but in my opinion, it's worth it, the super pencil is worth every penny. I've used multiple graphite pencils like these, but without the super pencil outer casing, instead using surgical tubing with zip ties. It's been a simple, effective method, but it's difficult to keep the pencil itself from breaking. This isn't an issue with the super pencil.Docking a single star - so 4 instead of 5 - because the advertised slate size is wrong. The overall slate size it 5"x7 3/8". I have no idea where they are getting the 6.25" dimension, as even the smaller, hinged slate is 5" x 6 3/4". Doesn't affect much, was just expecting a slightly smaller slate.

Great theory.... I bought it for master swimming since my vision is so bad I can't see the board, so I wanted to write the workouts on the slate instead of wasting paper.... But you can't get the writing off! So frustrating! Even with a magic eraser.... Save your money. Unless the manufacturers have any ideas....

I have used the slates that the pencil is held by a small rubber hose that attaches into the end of the pencil; ultimately you have to change the pencil and it is IMPOSSIBLE to get the pencil back into the rubber hose. THIS unit has a plastic container that the pencil fits into for SIMPLE replacement.

Been a diver for 25+ years and always carry a slate. I had a favorite for years but it finally got broken. Looked and tried others but this one is superb. The lead will actually last a long time. The slate is easily cleaned. And, it is the perfect size and easy to use on the dive. The Amazon price is right too.
