Hard to argue with the cost effectiveness of this pair of scientific calculators. Terrific for students and younger folks who still have great eyesight. But going on 80 I have a hard time reading the display, particularly if the calculator is not propped up at just the right angle to catch and reflect ambient light. I tried the calculator for a few days but then went back to the calculator app I have on my ipad just because the display is much larger and more readable for me. Good deal for the majority of buyers.

At the price it's a great value to have two calculators with this many functions. I don't need it to graph so it's perfect and not too complicated. The cover is not too tight. It would be nice to have a solar option. Batteries make me nervous when I dont use the device often. The main buttons I need are large enough for my fingers.

Update: 2/8/25. My partner and I have had several situations were using the calculator for simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division did not give us the right answers. We typically check our numbers forwards and backwards and in other ways to validate our numbers are right. When using these calculators, we get wrong results. Sometimes, 4-5 different results. We don't know if this is due to pressing the buttons fully, hitting a wrong button, not seeing the numbers on the screen, but we have never had a problem like this on many different (10-15) calculators over 40-50 years. As a result, we only use these calculators now on non-critical calculations. As a result, whether this is our entry issue or the calculators fault, 1 star off. Maybe it deserves 2 stars off. -- end of update. My spouse and I always seem to be looking for a calculator. I saw this pack of 2 and decided to order it. We have math, business, and engineering backgrounds, so I wanted something that would be able to handle those types of functions. Usually using just simple math (3*5=?)...The calculator has a LOT of functions, and I'm not sure I'm going to be using most of them. Calculators have a mindset for using them and you need to understand the manufacturer's mindset to easily handle the calculator. I've never figured out the mindset of my Casio calculator and therefore rarely use it. This calculator has 3 selections for many buttons (normal, shift, alpha). I find the alpha dark purple color to be very hard to read. In addition, the "M+" button seems to be overloaded. Even reading the micro font instructions, I still am not sure I get how to select some items. This calculator has 3 modes of operation (scientific, standard deviation, and regression). Depending on which mode, things are going to be doing different things. This makes the calculator more powerful, but also more confusing. For example, we got our Casio calculator into some weird mode and couldn't figure how to get out of it. Same for this calculator unfortunately. Need a "complete factory reset" mode. I don't recall any instructions about the replay button, and think this could have been one row to provide more button functions. Tripling up on buttons makes it tougher to use. In general a great all purpose calculator. This calculator does not do some fancy things other more expensive calculators do: graphing, binary/octal/hex math, matrix and simultaneous equations. It also has no solar power ability. However, for the price and a pack of 2, this is an excellent choice.I have two issues with the calculator, other than the modes of operation previously mentioned. The cover case is thinner plastic than I've seen before. This may become a problem for students and younger kids. There is also a gap when the cover is on both for storage and when in use. See the pictures. This is not really a problem, unless your shoving it into a backpack full of books, pencils, etc. Then it might be a problem. The cover should probably be longer to cover the gap space. Second, I would prefer to have the ability to store the instructions inside the cover. So I can pull them out when using it and trying to figure some stupid issue. Other calculators provide a slide in set of instructions the lays next to the inside of the cover and is out of the way. Neither of these are major problems for my situation, but could be for others.I'm glad I got these calculators.

I’ve been using calculators since the late 60s in engineering college. Back then, we had four functions and maybe one memory. Those early units were a huge improvement over using just a slide rule and paper. We used both since you couldn’t easily do some functions on the calculator. This calculator is way beyond anything we had back then. It’s a powerful little device that supports basic functions, memories, and many scientific, statistical, and other common formulas. It’s not a programmer’s calculator, though, and it doesn’t support HEX, Octal, or binary inputs and functions. I’ve been using it for a while, and I’ve come across a lot of the old-school functions I used to use. The only thing I wish it had is a lighted display that would be nice to use in other than a bright room. And the display is flat, so you have to angle it to use and read it. You can’t use it on a flat surface unless you’re looking directly down. For the price and considering you get two of them, it’s a great buy. Even with those two minor issues. I highly recommend it.

It seems this could have been even better as a solar-powered calculator, since it only does basic calculations. You'll need to supply two AAAs per calculator, because none were included with the devices. While it is technically a scientific calculator, it supports a very limited number of functions. For example, I couldn't determine how to perform hexadecimal conversions despite letters A-F being represented on the keypad. It seems those are reserved for variable storage only, not Base-n calculations. If you just need a simple scientific calculator, this will do. If you need something that ventures into more complex operations (like matrix or simultaneous equations) then this isn't what you're looking for.

This is a great deal. This is not the same quality as the $80-$120 graphing calculators that I had in high school, but it gets the job done. Notably, this doesn't graph. And it's worth noting that to turn it off, you press shift, then the AC key, not both at the same time. It doesn't list that in the instructions, but does on the product page and isn't completely clear, but I figured it out. The calculator itself is nice, it has a cover to protect the buttons and screen if you carry it in a bag. It takes two triple A batteries that aren't included. I mainly use it for office type calculations, but this should do most middle and high school math sans graphing I think. The instructions are very detailed about specific modes that it has. There are 3 modes: Basic arithmetic, standard deviation, and regression. I keep it in basic arithmetic mode, but I'm sure I'll use the others when my kids are in high school geometry and algebra (and maybe trig if they choose that route, as I see notes about trigonometric calculations in the instructions). It's worth looking at how fractions are notated. Overall, both seem to be in good functioning condition and the automatic shut off feature does work after a short amount of time. I recommend it as a scientific (and not graphing) calculator!
