A puncture is rare with this tyre. I am very happy with the performance of these tyres over an extended period.

I threw these on my Fuji Touring bike after getting a flat on the stock tires, and it was a match made in heaven. The 30 lb beast couldn't care less about a few extra pounds. They were a little challenging to mount the first time, but it was definitely possible without tools, and after that first time it was easier. They do seem to deliver on durability and puncture resistance - no problems after 500+ miles, though i recently found a cut in the rear tire that almost certainly would have flattened a standard tire - but there is a penalty in weight and rolling resistance. Nevertheless, I find it very reassuring to have them on my wheels, and they do a pretty decent job muting the road buzz at the lower end of the recommended pressure range. I definitely recommend them for touring, commuting, and recreational riding where speed is not a concern. I have also used them on gravel, and they work fine in non-technical, well maintained conditions. Obviously not ideal though. For rougher, loose gravel I definitely don't recommend them.

I have read reviews from folks that have had issues mounting these Marathon Plus tires. They differ from cheaper tires because they have a wire bead and therefore the circle (the inside diameter of the tire) will not give, nor should it. That design feature is likely what gives these tires their outstanding wear qualities.Nonetheless, I was able to mount these tires with no tire tools, no lubricant, no anything except a little thumb pressure on the bead. Here are some tips:1) Before mounting anything after old tire removal, make sure your spoke buffer strip is intact and clean, and that the valve hole is aligned with the receptacle in the wheel rim. Make sure your rim is more or less clean and free of burrs.2) I recommend using a new tube (you might as well, you have the wheel off) especially a previously patched tube. Make sure your tube and tire correspond in size. You can successfully mount a smaller radius tube but inflation will make its walls thinner than its design and weaker, we want tough. Use the correct tube.3)Inflate your tube just a bit to make it easy to manage but not too much or it won't all fit easily in the tube cavity of the tire. Physics and all.4) Take the time to line up the valve stem. It's worth the extra bit of fiddling to make sure it's properly aligned. Things work best that way.5) Make sure the tube is seated all the way up into its cavity, that way it's not floating around frustrating your efforts to seat the bead. I think this is where a lot of frustration is generated. Air it up a bit and get it up in there and out of your way.6. Take your time and gently seat the bead. It should be easy with hand/thumb pressure. If it's not fairly easy, something is binding, not aligned, the wrong size, etc. Honestly they didn't manufacture this tire to frustrate you, they made it to fit a wheel rim, it should fit snuggly but it really should not be a mega-struggle to get this on there. Check your work if you are having trouble.7. Have fun on your new tires.I was laughing because I installed these hundred dollar tires on my $45 clearance pile Wal Mart bike that I ride to the train station or to get groceries. I kept picking up goat-heads (a thorny seed contraption found out west here, I'm in Utah) so I found the skinny on these tires. I mean, I'm no bike snob, but the flats were getting pretty annoying, I was patching tubes a couple times a week. I'd say I'll update this review when I find out how puncture resistant they are, but we all know that's a lie.Let me just say that these are not run-of-the-mill cheap bicycle tires just slapped on a cheap bike. These tires obviously have some engineering and material science backing them up, and the fit and finish is nothing short of amazing. Right now I have zero regrets for the purchase. On top of that, they look fantastic.Happy cycling, friends!

I bought a pair of these back in November 2015 and they're still on the bike to this day. I've had zero punctures during that time.I commute on my bike (8 miles per day, all weathers) and remember going through a phase where I was getting a lot of punctures with my stock tyres. As I was primarily using the bike for commuting, I wasn't too fussed about the additional weight that came with these tyres. There is a noticeable heaviness even compared to my stock tyres, which to be honest probably weren't anything special, but the additional weight wasn't enough to be a concern when you consider how effective these are at preventing punctures. The tyres were a pain in the - tricky to fit. I'm not a particularly good mechanic by any stretch, but I'd been taking my old tyres off on the side of the road with no issue. These however took me a good 10-20 minutes to get on in the comfort of a kitchen, claiming the lives of one or two tyre levers in the process. My local bike shop have had the tyres off multiple times when fitting new wheels and they've always made it look annoyingly easy. Just something to bear in mind, as I think it could be tricky for the average joe - armed with cold fingers and fragile plastic tyre levers accumulated from various Christmas gift sets - to remove roadside were a puncture to occur mid-ride.But the whole point of these tyres is that you shouldn't have to worry about punctures, and in my experience they've performed admirably. Excellent value too. Would fully recommend.

I've been riding on these tires since May and I have yet to have a problem with flats. These 38mm are a perfect medium for urban roads, hard packed dirt, and gravel. Anything heavier than light gravel and they start washing out and slipping in steep climbs. If you encounter more dirt than pavement you should look elsewhere for more mountain-ready tires. However, I use these tires primarily for city riding and light dirt trails and these tires are amazing. I have literally rolled over broken bottles in the street and explosively shatter them with the impact and there aren't even any bits of glass embedded in the tires. I've taken these tires on day-long rides through San Francisco and Oakland and it's a nice peace of mind to confidently roll through glass and not have to swerve into the car lane to preserve tires. To underline the toughness of the tire, the seam where the two sides of the tires are mated together that runs on the center of the tire has yet to wear down. A little strip of rubber that generally wears off in the first few weeks of riding is still proudly present on these tires. The downside is that these tires are heavy and stiff, if you're concerned about that sort of thing. But I doubt you're a weight weenie and more of a person looking for a reliable tire that will last and looking for peace of mind when riding in dicey pavement conditions on your way to work. These are a steal at twice the price. Think about it, how often are you digging glass out of your tires and changing tubes when you're en route and in a time crunch? Get these tires.
