Schluter is the only product to use under tile work, period. I had shopped for the best price and found it on Amazon, at least in March 2024 Amazon was significantly cheaper than my local tile shop.

It is an excellent product but to make it work properly you need to take the course that the manufacturer provides to learn how to install it correctly that is essential.

The hardest part of a shower pan is creating the slope. This system allows you to easily install.

While planning my upper floor bathroom remodel, I was all primed to build a mortar shower pan in place. Lots of work involved so I was hoping to find some trick, new system that would keep me from doing that. Then I scored!. I coincidentally ran across the ads for this product, went to their website, and watched all of the videos over and over again! I finally decided to take a chance and install this over hardiebacker. The concept seemed sound. After a long day I finally got it all installed, including a 38“ x 60“ pan and 5 feet of curb. Everything went well but be warned, if you haven’t done any of this kind of work before this will be very difficult to do. And your rough plumbing has to be very precise so make sure you are comfortable performing that work as well. You have to be somewhat handy to understand the concepts and to use the tools and materials required. The biggest surprise was how incredibly sloppy and messy the process is! I had as much or more thinset (UNmodified, of course! ) on me as I did on the walls and for some reason my finished product didn’t look as neat and pretty as the one in the Schluter videos. I also used their drain system and then later installed their grate in conjunction with my floor tile. Everything now works perfectly and time will tell if it’s all really waterproof. I didn’t dock it any stars for this but it is way overpriced for what it actually is. But all-in-all, this was easier than building a pan and drain system from scratch.

Excellent kit and surprisingly easy to install for a DIY’r. Our shower had been leaking and came to found out there had been no waterproofing installed and a very old mortar shower pan that wasn’t correctly installed to the drain. I was dreading installing the shower pan until I discovered this kit made the shower pan an easy install. Water tested it and was incredibly impressed with no leaks.

Many other reviewers have commented on this... I didn’t notice until after I purchased it, but this is a KIT for a 38” x 60” shower pan, but it comes with two 38” long curbs. I genuinely can’t understand what Schluter would create a kit that doesn’t include enough curb for the shower they sized the pan for. I had to spend another $90 to get a 60” long piece of curb separately. In addition, I strongly recommend you buy their proprietary mortar blend. Generic I modified thin set was not “sticky” enough to easily embed the provided seam tape to create waterproof joints. It took a lot of finesse to get the tape to lay flat using I modified thin set. On the positive side, I think the drain setup is easier to work with and of higher quality than other kits I’ve worked with and the kit being based on prebuilt pieces made it easier to assemble and adjust to fit... if you aren’t working in new construction and don’t have perfectly flush, level, square, and straight walls and floors, this is the best kit to use. Our house is 180 years old and to make the pan fit the opening, I trimmed the pan such that it ended up 36.25” on one side and 36” on the other and it worked flawlessly.
