This car is simple. It' snot beautiful. It's not amazing, by any stretch of the imagination. But it is a cool car, and I like it. For the price they put on these.... it's fantastic. You can run this baby, and beat it all against the wall, or whatever..... and no problem. It'll take a lickin,' and keep on tickin.'

"Scalextric goes cheap again", diría un gran aficionado y crítico del slot que conozco. Como sucedió en la década de los '80 y '90 del siglo pasado, el mayor fabricantye de productos de slot en el mundo, Scalextric (aquí conocido como Hornby o Superslot) viene experimentando desde hace unos años un notable retroceso en la calidad de detalle y acabado de sus productos. Lejos quedan joyas como el McLaren/Mercedes, o el Ford Escort Mk I de la primera década de los años 2000, primorosamente fabricados. E igual sucede con sus coches NASCAR, que alguns aficionados atesoramos. En esta réplica del Thunderbird que competiría a mediados de la década de los '80, todod esprende una sensación de baja calidad y apresuramiento. Y no es que no se molesten ya ni en reproducir una decoración real, por no pagar royalties, es que todo el vehículo, incluido el interior, con una bandeja a media altura y sin detallar ni pintar, respira ahorro de costes. Hasta la caja de cartón, que no durará ni dos días desde que sea abierta por primera vez. Puede argumentarsae que se trata de una serie económica, destinada al trato duro que puedan darle los niños, pero el precio no se corresponde con esa idea y, en todo caso, los amantes de los vehículos históricos mereceríamos una serie alternativa, con réplicas de bólidos reales y un detalle similar al que tenían los Chevrolet Monte Carlo o Ford de hace pocos años.
