Measure Your Head
When it comes to finding the right hat, size matters. Properly measuring your head size will determine your hat size and help you get the perfect fit. The best hat will not only look good, but it will feel good. Before you buy your hat, make sure to measure your head and look at our size chart.
How to Measure Your Head
To measure your head size, all you need is either a measuring tape.
- Wrap the tape measure around the largest part of your head until the two ends meet at the center of your forehead just above your eyebrows. Firmly hold the tape mid-forehead with your finger, not too tightly or too loose.
- The goal is to determine precisely where your hat will sit for the most comfortable fit. Take note of the measurement from your measuring tape and use it to find your corresponding size on our hat sizing chart.
Sizing Tips
- If your measurement is in between sizes on the hat size chart, choose the next larger size.
- Even though our hat sizes are standard across the USA, there are various factors that can affect the fit of the hat, from the hat’s material to how much hair you have. This is all the more reason to go a size up – a slightly roomier hat is much more comfortable and easier to pad than a hat that’s too tight and gives you a headache.
- Don’t worry if you have a big head. We have large hats to help provide the perfect size for you from XXL to XXXL (many of our men’s hats come in XL already).
The Difference Between Men’s and Women’s Hats
- Men’s hats are generally sized numerically or alphabetically, although there are some men’s hats that come in one size fits most. These “one size” hats fit heads with a circumference of 21½” to 23” (medium to large).
- Women’s hat sizing is often one size fits most: the style is made in a standard size with the ability to suit head sizes ranging from 21½” to 22¼” in circumference. While actual hat sizes may vary, many of these “one size” women’s hats come with an inner drawstring or band that can be adjusted to keep the hat in place.
Hat Alteration Options
- Most “one size” hats for men and women come with an inner drawstring that allows you to adjust the fit. These inner drawstrings are usually found stitched into the sweatband itself with an extended piece of string or ribbon that you can tug. Pull gently to adjust the fit, which can tighten the hat up to two sizes.
- Many hats without inner drawstrings feature bands made of leather, elastic, or foam lining. If this is the case, you can still adjust the fit of the hat with sizing tape. This is the preferred method of adjusting hats because it maintains the shape of the sweatband and inner lining without any damage.

I am an expert in this particular hat. I've purchased several of the same one over many years because I love them that much, and I constantly get compliments on them. I wear one every single day any moment I'm outside the house. This one I just received is different and of lesser quality than all the ones before. Some of the changes are good -- the brim is about an inch longer than the old one, and the liner is tan instead of white. But the fabric is a lot thinner, the string to adjust the head circumference is less sturdy, the logo inside the crown is now printed in big letters all over the inside instead of a tasteful sewn-in smaller tag. This hat won't age as well as the old ones.The Pros: it's a good looking hat, it's highly packable and a great travel addition, still a decent deal for the price, the tan liner will be more forgiving with sweat.The Cons: the liner still shows if you get too 1990s with folding the brim up. All the things I've said above.

I love the wide brim on this hat as it really protects your face from the sun. It also has an adjustable inner tie to adjust the fit as you like even on breezy days. The brim can be bent up or down too depending on how much coverage you want. There are many colors to choose from. I have a fairly large head and it fits me fine plus you can always make a snugger fit if you prefer. It is packable as well.

Fit is perfect. The look with the upswept brim is perfect. The sun protection is also perfect due to the expanse of brim. It’s lightweight and packable. It is adjustable. My only suggestion is ties to keep it in place, and I may add those myself. It’s a bit pricey, but worth it.

I love this hat. This is my second one. I ruined the first one by washing it now the brim doesn't stay up. The hat is adjustable which is a great feature. I'm thinking of getting another color. I don't typically wear hats but I really like this one.

I have had my first had for about 3 or 4 years now and have just bought this second one (shipped from America so took a couple of weeks to arrive just in case you need one for your holidays plan ahead!). The old one has served me well on Mediterranean holidays (walking, on the beach and site seeing) and at home.It is cool, lightweight, adjustable, the ties meant I could tie it on my back pack but also it was just as happy and reshaped fine after being inside hand luggage.You can keep the edge of the brim flipped up or turn it down for a slightly different look.The only reason I have had to buy a new one is because it is a paler colour and after a few years looked a little grubby on the edges when I took it out the cupboard. I had tried washing it by hand in cool water it came up clean but unfortunately had shrunk slightly (my mum has a smaller head so she has inherited it!)

The band is adjustable, not the crown. So no matter how small your head circumference is (mine is 20 1/2”), the crown won’t have a “squeezed” look like my petite Walleroo. Also, sun protection is great. I can’t wear hats. I really look awful in them. This one works well for me with the brim up or down. Was worried the big brim model would be too big for my small head but it’s not. I have the linen color - perfect. Sewed some loops on where the brim starts and threaded a scarf through to personalize it. Haven’t had it in big wind, but it holds on well so far. Will probably add a chin strap with toggle at some point. Packs well. Came quickly. All this and the price was right! Perfect hat! Don’t hesitate.Update: I took this hat with me on trips to Bermuda and Ensenada - walking tours, observation deck of a ship, beach day, trip up the mountains in a Hum V. Great sun protection. Shaded my eyes well on the beach. Travels well. Looks good even after having been packed (it does wrinkle a bit though - Downey de-wrinkle spray worked well). Folded to fit into my decent-sized but not over-sized handbag when I was indoors. It held on fairly well in the wind, but a sudden, strong gust nearly blew it off. I'm definitely going to add a chinstrap. When the hat became soiled after a very dusty off road experience, I was able to remove the spots with a very moist washcloth. Still love this hat. My favorite, in fact. Definitely recommend.

Even though it is a little big, the rope inside helps to fit to the way I want the hat to fit. I love that has a high rating for sun. I wish they were a little cheaper. But bare in mind they are very very good quality. Would highly recommend this item.
