I like that this timer has an interesting design with a unique mechanism to turn it and start another 15 minute session. I got this because 15 minutes is a unit of time I use often for cooking, working, resting, and other things. I tested it a few times and it is pretty accurate. I recommend this item.

This sand timer is larger than I expected making it easy to see from across the sauna without putting on your glasses. Comes with the screws and anchors needed to mount it on the wall if desired. I find it soothing to concentrate on the sand moving thorough the glass while I relax in the sauna and quiet my mind for a perfect experience. Every sauna should have one of these timers.

We haven't installed our sauna quite yet so I can't answer any questions about how it reacts in that environment yet.To start with other features/thoughts... this is a very handsome, sturdy, well made sand timer. It's quite elegant in its simplicity. I thought we didn't get the hanging piece that was supposed to come with it but then found that if I just twisted the back board it opened up into a support bar where you hang it. You can hang it so that the wood back board shows horizontally or choose to disguise it by installing it vertically and then just turning the whole timer portion. That way its only exposed during the time you are physically turning it. That's how we prefer it because it has a more sleek appearance that way.The timer doesn't turn with just the flick of a finger. You have to physically use a little muscle to turn it (& I couldn't find a way to loosen this for easier turning). It's not hard to turn, its just not spin around easy turning. This may pose an issue for someone with a weakened grasping ability. I like that its like that because it keeps the kids from spinning in unnecessarily and it keeps the timer from losing time by accidentally moving if just touched.I was expecting the Canadian Red Cedar smell to be stronger like the smell of a cedar chest or cedar closet bar however I don't detect any smell at all yet. Perhaps the smell becomes noticeable once in a sauna environment.The sand in this timer is a pretty blue and you see it but its not "stand out" bright visible. It's a lovely shade that looks nice with the wood shade.I'd recommend this Cedar Sauna Sand Timer even if someone doesn't have a sauna but they just would like a minimalist quiet timer they can glance at while working at a desk to keep track of moving from project to project with a little more motivation.

I would order this again, unbroken of course. Not looking forward to hassle of returning it though!
