This grab bar is exactly what I needed for a guest bathroom that has a step down into the shower. The mid section is not smooth. The metal is roughly smooth so that when it’s grabbed your hand will not slip. That is extra safety for anyone going in or coming out of the shower

From which points on the bar is the 32" measurement taken ??? From the center of the two return ends or is it from out to out ??The instructions are hard to read.
Chief Screw-Up

This grab bar is one of the cheaper designs that have the flanges held to the bar with one large screw in each end. This is not nearly as sturdy as those bars with welded flanges. I was willing to overlook that drawback, but when installing it I discovered even more disappointing news. Once assembled, the flanges have covers that are supposed to snap on to cover the screws and provide a finished installation. The covers are so cheaply made that they pop right off and do not stay covering the flanges and screw heads. There is not even a good way to glue them in place because the tapered shape forces them off. I was left with the only alternative of taking the whole thing off the wall, taking it apart and removing the useless covers, then reinstalling it and just letting the 6 mounting screws show. It looks terrible but it works. I would not buy this product again.

Glad we found and bought this item! Have it installed side ways, to where it can be used to get up from the toliet or within reach from the shower stall, and to steady you if needed, while you dress.

We got this for our master shower in our new home and I love the solidity of it and the textured area is perfect. When grabbing with wet hands, the textured area keeps your hands from slipping.
