GREAT RADIO. GREAT RECEPTION ON ALL BANDS. EASY TO SET UP. GREAT SOUND. MY ONLY COMPLAINT FOR 4 STARS ONLY IS IT SHOULD HAVE A RECHARGEABLE INTERNAL BATTERY. THIS IS A BATTERY EATER, BUT A GREAT UNIT !

This is exactly what I had been looking for. A battery powered radio with good reception and a sleep timer. Small but powerful radio with a good quality sound. It also has an alarm so the radio can wake you up in the morning. The last Sangean portable radio I had lasted 37 years with daily use. I purchased this one as the replacement.

I used this radio to replace an AM/FM Tivoli radio which had analog tuning. For tuning stations there is no comparison how much better the digital tuning on the Sangean is for both ease of fiinding sations and holdingon to a signal. The Tivol does have much wider musical range and has more bass emphasis so is better for music but the Sangean really excels at talk radio. The 5 station preset is another benefit and the ability to go portabe with it is also a great advantage. My only caveat is that this radio does not produce music well enough for a satisfyingnusic experience and really ths is a talk radio radio but it is fabulous at it.

Cute size, sleek in the black colour, buttons at front are easy and big enough for my 75 yr old mother to work the radio, she loves it. Nice sound quality, auto-seek feature is great

There's been some reviewers disappointed that despite "digital' being in the items description it's not a DAB radio, but an old fashioned AM/FM model with a digital type display. We live in regional NSW and with no DAB outside the state capital cities we have no need or desire for a DAB radio with FM being the main delivery around here.We needed a radio with a sensitive FM tuner as we're between ABC transmitter towers - 100+ kilometers or 65 miles away from our home. This radio replaces a very good Sony portable slightly larger radio which recently gave up the ghost. I'd say the FM reception with the Sangean is on a par with it. i haven't tried out the AM band.We didn't purchase the official 6v power supply, instead I've tried a similar 5v supply we have here already. It worked well, but as some have reported when you tune to a distant FM station with some background hiss you can discern a low level static sound which isn't present when powered from the batteries. The antenna is long enough to receive FM stations on a quarter wave which is appropriate but not always provided with similar units. All in all a very nice unit which does the job well on FM.Edit: I've tried the AM band and can advise that Aussie users must switch the tuning gap between stations from the default ten pips gap when tuning to nine as our stations typically run 612, 621, 630 and so on. Refer to the radio instructions to effect the switch which is then saved.

I ordered this Sangean PR-D18BK as I was looking for something to replace an older camping type radio that was in our upstairs bathroom. The previous radio had a digital tuner and clock - both which had come in quite handy. But the sound of that radio was overly brittle and the tuning knob had become extremely skittish and hard to work with. A slight touch of the tuning knob would throw me way up-and-down the dial and thus tuning in the station I wanted was proving difficult more and more.I took note of all of the reviews that complemented the reception and the sound quality of the Sangean PR-D18BK. I completely agree with these reviews. This radio is extremely sensitive, more so than any radio in my house including my Onkyo home stereo (which does pretty well). The Sangean is on par with my car radio. The sound of this radio is very balanced and full bodied. It has a nice amount of treble without being overly bright - and a decent amount of bass for a small speaker. Even on AM which of course is not a decent sounding band anymore (compared to the 1950-1970'a when AM was the Top 40 radio band and radios actually had good sounding AM tuners, even AM stereo in the early eighties) this radio still has a decent AM sound and has great sensitivity as well. As far as FM, here in Denver I enjoy listening to an FM station that unfortunately is only a 99 watts and is on the far side of town. Even though it is on Lookout Mountain (where most Denver transmitters are) the signal has such low power that it struggles to come all the way across to the South East part of town where I live. This is the only radio in my house that picks up the station easily, again on par with my car stereo. If another one of my radios goes down for the count, I will probly get another 1 of these. I am extremely pleased with the Sangean PR-D18BK.

Me siento estafado.

I have had a Sangean table top radio on the stand beside my bed for a couple years and it is great! I found this one after much research and decided to purchase based on the specs for this one and my experience with the table top. I was not disappointed. This radio is a bit larger than a standard transistor radio but you can really see and hear the difference! This radio has a nice heft to it and the rubberized coating around the edge is a nice touch. The display is large and easy to read. The sound coming from the speaker is fantastic and the reception, AM and FM, is the best of any transistor radio I have owned since moving out to a fringe area of Los Angeles County. Most importantly, at least for me, is the fact that you can change out the batteries without losing your presets (as long as you do it within 30 minutes), a common and annoying problem with modern transistor radios. Yes, you will burn through 4 AA batteries in a week to 10 days if you listen as much as I do, but this little gem is worth the price! Recommended!

This is the second radio that I tried after needing to replace my very old, trusty GE portable radio (after dropping it far too many times, I finally broke the antenna for good, and the handle) . The first one was Sony ICF38 Portable AM/FM Radio (Black) which I HATED. See my review on that one.I did a lot of research on portable radios, looking for one that had excellent reception. Didn't want to spend a lot (wanted to keep it under $20). Bought the Sony for $25 because of excellent reviews. Sadly, my experience was not good so I returned that. Then I went back and increased my price range and decided to try this Sangean. I didn't want to spend much because I only use this radio on Sundays for Green Bay Packer broadcasts, and depending on the sync with the TV broadcast, I need to change the station to find the one that is closest in sync. Was never planning to spend $50 on a radio that I use so little, but conveniently it is my birthday and mom gives me $50 bucks so this became my birthday present. Anyway....WOW....this little radio is awesome. I am glad it has the electronic tuning and the five presets for both AM and FM. This has made it much easier to lock in the stations that I am trying to tune. The sound is amazing and the size is perfect. My ONLY negative is that it doesn't have a handle, but with it's size and the slightly indented speaker, it makes it easy to carry around. Another plus is it also will fit in my front jeans pocket for those times that my hands are full. This radio has excellent reception. Even with the antenna folded down, this pulled in FM stations better than the Sony radio that I had bought previously (with the antenna fully extended).I was concerned about the battery life because of the electronics, and lighted screen. But other owners said battery life was pretty decent. I have tried rechargeable batteries in this, but it doesn't seem to like them as much so I switched to regular alkalines.I had forgotten this radio also has an alarm clock. I might just bring this one camping with me for that reason.I like the rubberized surround (the darker colored part) which helps keep it from slipping. Nice extra.SOUND: Excellent sound, and volume is amazing...minimal distortion when set at highest volume (which I will probably never use)No AC cord included: Not a big deal to me. I will only use it on batteries, so this allows it to have a smaller size since you don't need storage for the cord.No Handle: I thought this was going to be a big issue for me. It's not. Fits easily in your hand for carrying.
