I wanted a speaker to use for bedtime meditation, sleep sounds, music, etc. I didn’t want to wear anything, so I was excited to try this speaker. I also bought a Bluetooth receiver and plugged this to make it a Bluetooth speaker. The volume is great, but it also has a battery compartment to boost the volume. It has volume control in the cable, so it’s easy to raise or lower volume without having use the source device.I use it without a battery under my pillow and, depending on the source device, the maximum volume is loud enough for me to hear without disturbing my partner. There was one night when the source device was capable of transmitting at a higher volume and, at my standard speaker volume, it was loud enough to disturb my partner. If I’d thought about it, I could have turned it down to reduce the disruption.Overall this is a great product at a good price. Highly recommend, especially when connected to a Bluetooth receiver.

been using it for a couple of weeks now and have to say it is an improvement over the cheaper versions I have used in the past. the cables are well attached, the amp works great and the sound is solid.I am using it off a radio however and have no need to attach to a phone.

I bought mine in 2021, and i haven't had any problems with it; it's still working great! The cords are very thin, but i have it wrapped around a bedpost with the volume control/battery case dangling down, and have never had a problem with the cord. Not even with the occasional drop of the phone while it's plugged in, yanking on it.I put a battery in, but I don't recall ever changing it. The in-line volume control is very convenient. Easier to find the dial than to grab the phone, click the side button, swipe to unlock, and then try to swipe the volume slider just enough.I also attached it to my headboard with velcro, instead of using it under or in a pillow. Can't speak as to how that would or would not annoy a bedmate, but the sound is much clearer, and there's less opportunity to stress the wire.My only regret is I didn't get a set of stereo speakers.

Je m'en sers toutes les nuits depuis 1 mois. C'est vraiment mieux que de mettre un vieux téléphone sous l'oreillet (ce que j'ai fait pendant des années).

As described, it works very well. Under a pillow, sound is good.I'm sure it is not the cheapest on the market, but they have not cut corners in build quality. The friend who recommended this speaker said that a large national charity may be thinking about selling the speakers.

It has an input input impedance of 200 ohms, doubt that any smartphone can power it correctly without an amplifier. The sound is incredibly low without the amplifier, wih the built-in amplifier its ok. You'd think they would include a sensitive speaker thats easy to drive for portables, and atleast be able to power the amplifier by usb instead of a battery that probably runs out if left on while you're sleeping. Compared to my phone speaker, the volume is about 1/10. Updated review from 1 to 3 stars cause it does work as you would expect, with the amp.

I bought this because I like listening to music when I fall asleep but my ears hurt when I fall asleep with earbuds. Plus, call me paranoid, I'm not comfortable not being able to hear bumps in the night, in case of an emergency. I tried listening to one of those bedside radio speakers but my husband doesn't like to fall asleep to my music ("What is that creepy new age stuff you're listening to?"). So one day I thought there has to be a small speaker you can put inside your pillow so I did a random search on Amazon and sure enough, I found this product. At first, I was really disappointed because the wire right near the headphone jack on the speaker is really thick so when my phone had its case on, it straight up didn't fit. I had to remove my case at night to use the thing. I liked it, but didn't like that my phone was unprotected. I have a cat. Who likes to shove my stuff off my bedside table during the night. So this was not a great solution for me, to have my phone without its protective case. I actually packaged up the speaker and intended to return it. But got lazy and never didThen, my phone broke. (Unfortunate stairwell accident) I'm with T-Mobile so I used their insurance plan and "jumped" (aka upgraded) to another phone. So with a new phone and new case, I saw the speaker sitting on the shelf and thought "Humm, maybe it will work with this phone now." And I'm happy to report it did. Perfect. And now I love it. The cord is nice and long so there's plenty of twisting and turning length. There's also a volume control right on the speaker cable so you don't have to reach over to your phone's control to adjust that. It's designed so that if you have it on, but aren't laying with your ear next to it, it's really quiet. But once you put your ear down on the pillow, it's quite clear and even loud. I wish the speaker, itself, was a little padded or came in its own miniature pillow, just so it wasn't this hard plastic thing right under your head. But I just push it off to the side under my pillowcase and I can still hear it fine. I'll probably get crafty and make some kind of cushion to put it in one day.So bottom line, if you think about getting this, take a look at your phone case and see if the headphone jack is either wide enough to fit the thicker part of the speaker wire? Or if it's thin enough to allow the jack to make a proper connection. I have a Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge with a Tech21 clear case. And the Tech21 case has a really wide headphone jack cutout. So it works great with the speaker without me being forced to remove the case to use.

PLEASE BEWARE!!!!! This was a fabulous little speaker and I absolutely loved it for 3 weeks, then the booster went out and I could only get a low volume from the speaker. Called Sangean and they wanted me to pay a restocking fee to return the defective one and for me to pay the shipping fee for a replacement. After talking with George for a while he checked with his manager and said I didn't have to return the defective one or pay the restocking fee. He told me just to send a check for $6.00 to cover the shipping of a replacement unit (yes, I had to pay for the shipping). Two days later I sent a letter to George outlining the conversation we had over the phone and enclosed my check for $6.00. It has now been 3 weeks since I mailed my check, the check hasn't been cashed, and I don't have a replacement speaker. I've tried calling but somehow they always seem to be closed. Don't waste your money!!! Great little speaker but it should work for longer than 3 weeks. Customer service not any good either.UPDATE: Finally received my replacement speaker and it WORKS GREAT. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that my first speaker was just defective from the beginning. I hope my new one lasts longer than the first one because I really love this speaker. If you purchase this speaker and don't get a defective one I think you will be very happy with it.UPDATE #2: The replacement speaker I received as mentioned above was received on 12/28/16. It is now 5/18/17 and the amplifier on this speaker has now gone out. I've had almost 5 months of enjoyment out of this speaker. I can still listen to the speaker but without the amplifier you have to put the speaker on your ear to hear it. Apparently Sangean has a problem with their amplifiers. Hope they will improve them because I really love the speaker.
