About this item

  • TRUFORCE BUCKLE: Slack is the main cause of a failed tourniquet application. The TRUFORCE buckle technology auto-locks to eliminate nearly all tourniquet slack by incorporating innovative baseline force control, activating locking prongs.
  • TRUFLEX PLATE: Made of 100% nylon, the TRUFLEX Plate distributes forces as targeted circumferentials pressure while providing additional support for the Metal Windlass Rod.
  • METAL WINDLASS ROD & TIME BAND: The Metal Windlass Rod is machined of lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum giving it reliable strength and durability. The weather-resistant, night vision-optimized Time Band allos for secure usage in any environment.
  • PRECISION STRAP: Velcro-dependent tourniquets can fail when wet or dirty. SAM XT solves this problem with the all-weather Precision Strap, made of single-layer nylon webbing and featuring intervaled holes that lock with the TRUFORCE Buckle to create a consistent, efficient primary security system. The secondary hook and loop system secures the remaining strap, adding stability and safety.

Engineered for rapid application, SAM XT’s innovative design normalizes the number of windlass turns needed compared to traditional tourniquets, enabling an easier, faster training of the product and intuitive use. SAM XT’s TRUFORCE™ Buckle technology auto-locks at a predetermined amount of circumferential force, eliminating nearly all tourniquet slack. Simply click, twist, and secure for a life-preserving tourniquet application.

Just remember that this one is a bit different than the usual CAT in that it will "Click" once you apply enough pressure. If it doesn't click, you haven tightened it enough. Just pull hard until the prongs click and lock the strap through the holes, then wrap the velcro and finish up the tightening with the windlassI know it's not recommended to practice with your tourniquet, but I suggest you try this one out at least once.My only complaint is that when staged, it is a tad longer than the standard CAT tourniquets because of the plastic locking part with the two locking stubs. It is not the end of the world, but you may car about this if you IFAK is a little short on space.Overall, great TQ. I would absolutely buy again.

I carry tourniquets in all my first aide kits - most of them started off as "boo boo" kits, with band-aids and gauze, but I've added good shears, tourniquets, clotting gauze, and chest seals to them to build an effective "stop the bleeding" kit. While there are many CAT tourniquets in my my kits, I recently tried out the SAM XT, at the recommendation of a military combat aide instructor. He claimed (and I agree) that the SAM XT tourniquets are a bit more "fool proof" to use. Simply loop over the extremity and pull until it clicks, then tighten the windlass. CAT versions work well enough, but can be difficult to use on yourself or get tight enough before winding. These take the guesswork out of that process with the self setting tightness mechanism.

This is the easiest tourniquet I’ve found. Easy to use and easy to explain to someone without training. I would strongly recommend this tourniquet.

Best tourniquet for your ifak, can be applied easily with one hand and the windless is metal. Tccc committee recommends this for a reason. Sof-t is better for a cls/medic but this is cheaper and easier for the average grunt.
