Buyers Products SaltDogg Walk Behind Drop Spreader offers contractors, facilities managers, and property owners a high capacity walk behind spreader for use with bagged salt and ice melt. Its low-to-the-ground, drop spread design keeps application precise, making it ideal for areas near sensitive foliage. The wide 44 in. profile can cover a whole path in one pass. The drop spreader has a 2.5 cubic foot poly hopper that can accommodate 200 lb of bagged salt or ice melt. The stainless steel agitator and trough with nylon bushings keep materials moving, and help to break up any clumps in the de-icing material. The spreader features a durable stainless steel frame and discharge, as well as 13 in. pneumatic tires for a reliable ride. The spreader is equipped with a solid linkage control system for discharge adjustment. It also comes standard with a hopper screen to prevent material jamming, and a nylon rain cover to keep material dry and easy to spread.

We use this to salt sidewalks. the on-off lever for the spreader is pretty much useless. It is supposed to act as a lever and open a sliding valve underneath the hopper. The design is flawed and will not have enough torque to open that gate. We just had to manipulate the opening with our hands and lock it in place. It works great and can carry a huge volume of salt. The only problem is the open and shut lever.

Works great.

The spreader drops the salt okay but the flow control is very cheaply made and difficult to use. I also did not receive the clear plastic cover that was supposed to be supplied with the spreader

This expensive spreader is sturdy, but unfortunately is not well designed for purpose. It often leaves clumps of material (salt or gardening additives) or none at all. The flow control is regulated both at the bottom, by means of a wing-nut fastened plate that restricts the size of the openings, and also to a certain extent by the open/shut control up at the handle. Neither control is particularly reliable.Assuming it worked, there would be a substantial time-savings in using such a wide spreader, but it is cumbersome to use in tighter areas, as well as its being very heavy, even when empty. We are very disappointed, as we hoped that by spending more we would obtain something more reliable than the typical $60-$150 drop spreaders.

I would not recommend this product to anyone serious about the quality of their tools. It is already overpriced, but because of the very poorly constructed drop adjustment mechanism, it makes it an even worse deal.
