Outdoor parcel lockers are accessed through the through two (2) front loading compartments and fit with a 2 key security system that allow tenants a convenient way to receive packages on site (U.S.P.S master lock installed by the U.S.P.S). The package locker I received came in a box that seemed a little beat up in the corners and the tape holding the sides had failed. But that's normal these days with many packages delivered by UPS and USPS. There were no rips in the cardboard, no big dents, and no obvious signs of significant abuse. However, when the cardboard box was opened I was shocked at how little protection was provided by Salsbury Industries to protect this expensive package locker during shipping. The locker was clearly damaged. One corner of the aluminum top was cracked open and there was enough twisting in the frame from an apparent drop on that corner to prevent the locking mechanism from properly engaging.I put the locker back in the box, replaced the cardboard packaging, re-taped the box and lugged this awkward 100 lb return back to our local UPS drop-off spot. Of course, the unit is expensive enough that Amazon won't credit the return until 'up to 30 days' after the return is received.While I ordered a replacement, this experience raises questions for me about how sturdy the package locker really is and, given it can't even survive a trip with UPS, whether it can withstand someone trying to break into it with a crowbar or sledge hammer.So far, color me unimpressed.
