I used this Pex expansion tool to connect 1/2" Pex-A pipe to three brass fittings. All of them leaked! I waited at least 10 minutes for the Pex-A tubing to shrink onto the fittings before turning on the water, and still they all leaked. I expanded the pipe to the point where the pipe touched the collar of the tool, but I believe it is over expanding the pipe. I was forced to hire a professional plumber to make these simple connections because this tool wasn't up to the task. The plumber used the same brass fittings I used. The only difference is he used a $500 Milwaukee cordless expansion tool and not something like this.

If you're a DIY homeowner that likes to do their own work, this is a useful tool for expanding/installing PEX tube. Would recommend you clamp down your PEX to the fixture for a true water tight fit. For the price, I think you'll get decent life out of it....doubt professional plumbers use it but this definitely has it's niche for those of us that would rather tackle a project ourselves.

The build quality is good, and it functions as intended. The kit includes what you need to make basic pex joints. I guess I could complain that the molded case has a place for the grease that doesn't really hold on to the bribe, but that's an insignificant gripe. The design requires a lot of lever throw, so it's not great for working in tight areas, like between joists, but for the price, you can't expect to match a motorized tool.

So, I do own a cordless PEX expander, and I am not going to lie, it is nice. However, if were diy-ing or a contractor that just does a little PEX here and there, this is what I would purchase. It is well manufactured, and comes with an outstanding selection of heads, Including 5/8". The reason 5/8 is nice, is because the ID is the exact same as copper piping, which means you will have the same flow and pressure as copper.

I recently purchased the SD-F1960 expansion tool kit, and it has been a great asset for my plumbing projects. This tool is specifically designed for expanding Type A PEX tubing, making it compatible with ASTM F1960 expansion fittings. It's perfect for professionals who need versatility across different fittings. The complete kit includes everything necessary for efficient operation. It comes with five expansion heads (3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", and 1") and a tube cutting tool, which allows for accurate results. All components are made from high-strength aluminum alloy, making them both durable and lightweight, which is especially helpful when working in tighter spaces.Using this manual PEX expander is effortless. The lightweight aluminum construction allows for smooth operation even in tight or elevated spaces. The chrome-plated spring steel cone offers excellent weather and corrosion resistance, which adds to the tool's reliability.Additionally, this tool kit is quite flexible, suitable for a wide range of applications—from residential plumbing to commercial and industrial setups. This was the best price for Thai took I found and it came with 3 different sizes. It’s a little tough doing it by hand but it beats $600 for a Milwaukee version.Remember that this does not auto rotate, so you must rotate it manually to get that perfect expansion. It also comes with extra grease.
