Screen does not tear when cat scratches

My cats were tearing up the mesh in the screen doors . This new mesh was fairly simple to install and the cats have given up on trying to get through it. It has a kind of vinyl pliable feel rather than fine metal mesh we use to have.

It’s was a bit tougher to install than a regular screen. A screwdriver helped press the spline into place. It’s been a while now and it’s holding up well. The dog did charge through it and pulled one side loose. It was super easy to pull back into place and press the spline back in with a screwdriver. It’s still looks new.

Very easy to work with and material seems to be dog resistant. I have 2 dogs a German Shepard and Husky. The screen has only been installed a week. No damage has been done to it yet. Very happy with this product and the price is reasonable.

My cat tore through my old screen door, she would climb it and hang from it. She is a bit of a chunky cat and thats why my old screen door ripped. But this screen door mesh is amazing. My chunky cat can climb it and it still wont rip. Its super sturdy and super durable. Will buy more if i ever need more mesh !

Cats like birds. They talk to them and try to lure them. Indoor cats like mine would have no idea what to do with one once caught, but they try. In that trying it’s not unusual for them to pull holes in the screen.I’ve replaced all my screens with these. Strong and look nice. They will make the screen noticeably darker, as they are much thicker, and sharp cat claws can’t rip them.Fairly easy to install. Comes with a plastic wheel tool. Throw it out and get a metal one. They’re inexpensive and do a better job pushing the spline in.

So far very pleased with my purchase. Quality of the screen seems to be excellent, we'll see how it stands up when my cat is really doing her thing. Kit was great although the spline tool is not terrific. I did 2 screens so far and the plastic on the spline seating side is pretty much wrecked. I got my jobs done but ill probably invest in a tool thats a little more robust for the next one.

PROS: This combo kit was less expensive than getting the screen, spline tool, and spline separately. The screen is strong.Cutting the excess off was easier than I thought.CONS: Like others have said, jamming the spline in the track is a bit difficult.***Due to the thickness of the screen, visibility is slightly reduced and the outside world looks a bit darker. It wasn't as bad as I thought though.***My technique: I laid the screen on top of the empty frame. There was about 3-4 inches of excess screen overhang. At first I tried to completely set the spline into the track starting at the end and proceeded inch by inch. This was very difficult and I almost gave up after seeing how long this was going to take. Instead, with my left hand I held about 5 inches of the spline over the track and held the screen in place with the same hand. With my right hand I took the spline tool and ran it over the same (2') area of spline in a zig-zag motion, back and forth on the same spot, like your cutting a piece of steak. The spline would then gradually start to sink into the track. This went much quicker. I used a flat-head screw driver to get the spline in the corners. It took about 25-30 minutes to complete the process. I used a utility knife with a fresh blade and ran it along the track on an angle right above the spline. One positive thing about the spline being so difficult to get into the track is that the screen is held very securely and will take a lot to pop out.Be sure to:Gauge that the screen installs straight. It's easy to get the screen to install on an angle. Some backtracking might be necessary.Don't worry about a loose floppy screen until you get to the 3rd side. You can then keep the screen taught while inserting the spline. Mine's as tight as a tiger.Watch your finger as you are inserting the spline. The spline tool can easily slip off the spline and run into your hand. The spline tool has different ends. One side has a concave disc which helps in keeping it on the spline.I used the other end when I was all done to go around the screen and make sure the spline was fully set around the whole thing.

My biggest worry was that the screen would not be tight -- this was not the case. The challenge is keeping the screen straight. My installation ended up tight, but only slightly skewed. The pet-resistant screen lessens viability and I think is a bit disorienting when looking outside through the screen. It will take some getting used to. If you are particular about your screen being thin, this might not be for you. The pet-resistant screen is quite a bit thicker than a regular screen. I would recommend the ADFORS brand: the screen and packaging are noticeably high quality. The spline tool is sufficient for one-time use. I used a punch and a hammer to get the corners set properly.

Bought this kit because it came with the spline and tool to install the spline. Well, the screen material itself is very tough and thick. I have two cats that can usually tear through whatever they put their minds to, but they can not tear this screen. So, that's a good thing, since it's the reason I bought the screen. However, the spline that comes with this kit is too thick to fit inside the original screen frame, even before the addition of this screen. So, it is not even usable at all. Next, the plastic tool that comes with it to install the spline is a cheap, flimsy, completely useless tool.

This is great screen so far. It has been up for a week. We have a cat who doesn't retract her claws quickly and gets at least one caught in the screen often. So far she has done no damage. This takes a lot of oomph to install. Plus we don't have a flat surface other than the floor large enough to lay the patio screen door on and install in a standing position. I could not do it totally with the spline tool. I sat on the floor and got creative with a rounded edge piece of steel and rubber mallet to get the spline started. After that I used the spline tool to push the spline completely into the channel. The last time we had the screen replaced on this door it cost $90.00. I am happy to say this 59 year old lady did it herself and it looks great for under $30. I have to baby my back and shoulder due to a couple bulging discs. With prayer and patience I was able to do this myself with great results. Figured if I couldn't I would take the supplies to the hardware store and see if they would install for $20 or $25, still half the cost.

My wife installed this she says:"It is thicker than average screen, very sturdy. Keep your old spline, as the new spline is thicker and will make installation difficult. This screen is thicker so when you apply it to the screen frame it will fill the grove twice what the old screen did, so you will need to use your old spline (if it is thinner than the spline included) I also pulled the spline to aid in inserting it in the groove. The screen is very nice. Seems to hold up to my 10 lb cat. The tool that is included to insert spline is not very good, but it did not break. But I have thin lady hands LOL, if your a strong guy you might break it, go buy a better one for a couple dollars."
