Rub ‘N Buff Frequently Asked Questions

What is the date stamped on the tube?

The date stamped on the crimped end of the Rub ‘N Buff tube is the manufacturing date. There is no expiration day or used by date, as this is a shelf stable product.

Why is my tube of Rub ‘N Buff the wrong consistency?

Rub ‘n Buff is made from a combination of wax and solvents. Over time, it can sometimes separate in the tube. To restore the proper consistency, replace the cap snugly and knead the rub in your hand for several minutes to warm and remix the product.

Why is my tube of Rub ‘N Buff liquid?

Rub ‘n Buff is made from wax, as such it can be affected by changes in temperature. If your tube is melted, replace the cap snugly and place is a cooler place to thicken.

Why is my tube gritty?

Some colors of Rub ‘N Buff may contain more pigment then others. Kneading the tube should help smooth the consistency, but some colors (such as Ebony) may need more buffing during application to smooth the finish.

Cleaning Instructions

Scrape away any excess Rub 'n Buff from the surface. Apply Dawn dish soap or Simple Green at full strength by working it in with your fingers. Allow to set and work for 3-4 minutes.

On Carpet: Using a clean rag and clear, warm water, begin removing the cleaner and product. Rinse frequently. You may have to repeat this procedure more than once to completely clean the area.

NOTE: Do not use cleaners that contain solvents as these may cause the Rub 'n Buff to disperse into the carpet padding.

On Clothing: Treat the area as described above and put clothing into the washing machine.

I was able to cover a large wooden framed mirror (3x3 feet) with this and I only used about 1/4 of one of the tubes. You want to squeeze the tube to mix the product before using, but make sure not to let it squeeze out the bottom. Although it seems pricey for a little tube of something, with how far a little bit goes, it's definitely worth it. It gives such a realistic gold leafed look.

Easy to use. I have transformed several items with a finger and this wax. Clean up is a breeze! More antique gold in color, definitely not the bright brazen gold.

Great color make sure you squeeze the unopened tube to mix before opening. This particular color separates in the tube so give at a few squeezes to mix.

Works very easily for brightening with a gold touch. I wouldn’t use it as a solid paint, just for adding gold touches. I have used it on metal, plastic and wood. It worked well on matte metal, but not on super shiny or plastic coated metal. I applied it with my finger and buffed it with a cloth.

This thing goes a long way, I mean just a dap can coat a big section. You can use an old makeup brush, a gloved finger, or a basic napkin to smear it or ‘rub n’ buff’ this stuff on whatever surface it can stick to. It’s amazing and gold leaf was my color!

Ordered this because I saw a video of it being used to add color to etching on wine glasses. That didn’t work for me but I remember I had an older dresser that at one time had gold leafing. Over the years it had worn off. I tried it and it was perfect. So in the end I was happy I ordered it.
