Teach spectroscopy with live video! Digitally capture an individual spectrum, and then compare it to a series of known spectra. The included camera and software make this an easy and inexpensive alternative for studying quantitative spectral analysis using a standard spectroscope. The RSpec Explorer allows multiple users to experience the benefits of quantitative spectroscopy at the same time, and in meaningful ways. Until now, it’s been nearly impossible to teach about light and color using traditional tools like diffraction gratings because you can’t determine if all your students are even seeing the same results of their experiments. But with the RSpec Explorer’s camera and software system, you will be confident knowing that every student is seeing the same thing. The result is that they’re spending less time wondering what they’re looking at and more time on impactful tasks like: learning how to measure the wavelength of visible light, understanding the different line spectra from ionized gas tubes, or studying the diffraction of light. The RSpec Explorer’s powerful and intuitive software allows students to graph and displays the results, helping them interpret what they’re seeing. Students can also export experimental data to Excel, record their experiments, and leverage the built-in library of gas spectrum lines to compare one ionized gas to another. Simply position the RSpec Explorer on a stable surface, one or two meters from the light source. There’s no fine-tuning or adjustment necessary. The internal video camera includes a built-in diffraction grating and it auto-focuses and adjusts for current light conditions. The system works with any XP or more recent Windows operating system and Macs. You can set up the camera and capture a spectrum in about 90 seconds!

I am a engineer and this product was not worth the money

Best Optical Instrument I ever took a chance on ... Redeployed it as a flouresence spectrophotometer for measuring the diameter of Carbon nanoparticles. Holy Crap, did it ever measure those little buggers.

I wish I could give it more stars! Wonderful spectrometer and software. The support is great and eager to help. After a little learning curve on the software (plenty of U-Tube videos to watch) plug it in and start using it for your applications. Well built with good hardware and you cant beat the price for the spectrometer and software. The software alone could run that price. If your looking for a spectrometer with a limited budget stay away from the Chinese stuff and stay USA built and developed. I highly recommend this from the student to an engineer.ChadDesign EngineerTempe, AZ

The camera is great and the default calibrationworked flawlessly. The software needs a printed manual instead of(uncaptioned) videos, but otherwise is great.

This is a great product! It’s easy to use and makes teaching the visible light spectrum and spectroscopy so much easier and more effective that other methods. Use it for demonstrating spectra of gas tubes in front of your class as well as for hands-on student labs.Like most of us, I’m enormously busy, so I was worried that learning and using the RSpec Explorer would take more time than I had to spare. But, unlike so many of the other lab devices I’ve used in the past, this one was easy. The hardware is well-made and the software very intuitive. For inquiry-based labs, students can easily learn to use the system by watching the quick tutorial video that come with it. They can then identify a mystery gas tube, capture data and images for lab notebooks, and do inquiry-based labs.Great bargain. Highly recommended.

Two minutes after setting it up for the first time, it was working exactly as described. The software is done brilliantly, which makes teaching the complicated subject of spectroscopy much simpler. The elements library had me identifying absorption lines almost instantly.
