I have not been able to find anything that compares to the woodless fusion pencil in this kit. I would happily buy a whole set of them if they were made available. The charcoal pencils are also great quality, with the hardest pencil not winding up being completely useless as I’ve found to be the case with other brands. Great tools for an even better price.

Good quality for the price you pay. The vine charcoal was nice and easy to use. The pencils were nice quality.

I bought this product a couple of YEARS ago, and they are incredible. GREAT for beginners, I used them for this drawing up here and I’m not even experienced with charcoal. They do break, but you can definitely still get a lot of use with them. Oh yeah, my only problems was with one of the pencils, it was just too hard to sharpen (as in it kept breaking. (I’m not an expert so idk if that is normal or not)) and I think they should include a good sharper in the package, but other than that this is amazing.

While this set is amazingly affordable, you kind of get what you paid for. The soft charcoal is impossible to sharpen, with anything. The lead crumbles into pieces. Having said that, the medium and hard are fine, as well as the rest of the set. The charcoal sticks are not as good as other brands, but again, you get what you pay for. What I do like about this set is that it has more of a brown tone when used next to other charcoal, like General’s for example, so it gives you a variance in tones.

Great variety of charcoal in this kit. I did a test of each piece at different angles, smudging effects, erasing, etc. You will need something to sharpen the pencils. Everything else will work the way you hold and use the charcoal (straight up, tilted a bit, using just a corner, sideways, flat, or how you rub it on the sandpaper. The tin these come in is nice. It's small enough to fit in a place the size of a cell phone or any portable art case and keep everything together. I just keep my sketching items in a small cloth bag. Do whatever works for you.

The set has everything I need for charcoal drawing. I am a total beginner and gives me a nice selection of charcoal types to use. I like that the charcoal is in a tin which keeps it well protected and all together in one place. The price was great too!

I am so pleased with this purchase! Royal is far superior in quality than Generals brand (or even Prismacolor when it comes to charcoal pencils-prisma lead falls out on their charcoal pencils but not their colored ones!) This was one sale for cheaper than 4 sticks of Generals compressed charcoal, but would be worth every penny at full price.I am a disabled veteran and a fulltime student (video game art student but traditional artist as well) at local community college using my GI Bill. I am on a budget and good quality art supplies are not cheap. Brand makes ALL the difference. I didn't realize when I purchased this that it was the full kit with compressed sticks and pencils. I was happily surprised especially at the price. The pencil wood is far superior. It shaves down with exacto (scalpel kind is my fave) perfectly to get the long lead so you can use the side as well as point of pencil WITHOUT the lead breaking or the wood splintering. The seller was amazingly fast at shipping this to my house. I was worried I would have to pay triple at Michaels to finish my midterm project in time but it arrived within 2 days.I will be purchasing here instead from now on.
