Although you can find similarly looking and cheaper mutes - this one is of a better quality:it can be fixed on the bridge more deep and stable than the others. So, it worth the money.Works for violin and viola equally well.Heifetz Mute for Violin or Viola is more expensive and probably (somewhat) of higher quality but this one is the best for the price.

Its good, makes my viola sound more mellow. There's nothing to complain, other than the fact it somehow stains my bridge black where it attaches on for some reason. Not going to question it though

This product is okay but just by looking at it, it doesn't look professional. It also makes quite an annoying rattling sound while not using the mute. Other than those problems, if your looking for a cheap mute, this would be your best bet.

Whatever this little rubbery creature is, our teenager, viola-loving son loves it! Apparently, it dampens the sound (forgive me if I am totally off) and he excitedly demonstrated it to me. I could have easily mistaken it for an unit for my motorcycle, but what do I know?I strongly recommend it to all violinists who want to dampen your musical outcry for a small price! I am sure your cat(s) will appreciate it.

Just like the kind we used in high school. Very trusty. Easy to use. This makes my 16.5 viola sound more mellow. It's easier to play softly without sacrificing even, solid sound. Good enough for a college student, at the very least!

I got this mute for my viola. I think it sounds best when you put it on your G and D string. You can leave it on or take it off. I take it off and put it in my case when I am not using it. Good mute, good price! Any player needs lots of these, so stock up!
