For many years, I used a well-known brand of technical pen. They were clog-prone and difficult to start ink flow after a refill. The good quality of line made the drawbacks tolerable. It seemed that the problems became more frequent and pen fit and finish deteriorated. I tried Rotring because it was claimed they were easy to re-start after an ink refill. That has been my experience on both the Isograph and Rapidograph models. Ink flow is reliable after a short period of disuse. The components are well made and the pen feels sturdy and balanced. The cartridge refill procedure is easy and very clean - no hesitation about doing it right at my drawing position (with the other brand, I usually did a refill-restart over a utility sink). I use the pen to make drawings of architecture and animals. With Rotring pens, I can concentrate on technique and not worry about clogs or leaks.

They are so reliable. Was replacing one that had lasted more than 30 years and the green ink in it never dried up because everything fits together so well. Its like an old friend and the fine line it makes is great when you're editing text, like me.

These pens put down very consistent lines. Very accurate and perfect for pen and in drawing cross hatching. Only thing that is off is the .13 is a thinner line even though it is supposed to be thicker than the .1 .

Can’t write. Maybe it’s the ink drying .?I have to suck on the nib and people laugh at my black teeth

The wire in the tip and the tip cylinder of this pen scratched and dug into the paper I was writing on, and the pen was very hard to use. In contrast, I have had no problems with a Rotring Rapidograph 0.5mm Technical Drawing Pen of the same design. An irritating problem with all of these pens is that the threaded portion of the barrel which holds the tip is very thin and is made of low-strength plastic, which will easily split. Using a stronger plastic, or offering an option to purchase a replacement metal barrel (Ti, or similar) would be a welcome improvement. (I have had to wrap Scotch tape around the barrel of several of my pens.)

These are fantastic.Pros:-- Line quality is fantastic. If you think you might like it, I'm pretty sure you will LOVE it. I like it even better that Copic, which seems to be the standard in the trade.-- The ink refills work great. They tend to come from Japan, so order a few boxes at a time, and you'll be supplied for a while.-- 0.3 is a good size for what I need, which is a general-use outdoors sketch pen. It makes for a very graphic and linear style (Sakura pens are more felt-y and less precise, which can create a different though also wonderful style)Cons:-- The nib breaks off relatively easily. The nibs as of now are not easily replaceable (they are just about the price of the pen—perhaps issue of supply which tends to ship to consumers from Japan).-- Original pens and supplies ship from Japan. Of course, it's a delight to receive the shipments—meticulously neat packaging and sometimes very polite customer messages. But I feel the shipment from abroad makes the price little higher, and definitely the wait is a little longer (although shipments almost always arrive far in advance of Amazon estimates).-- For the price/quality ratio for my needs (free drawing outside, not in the studio), this may not be the best pen. But I still love it so much that I'm giving it five stars.
