These are so awkward and almost painful to use. It’s really hard to get a grip on the canvas compared to previous pairs I have used. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to try them before my return window was up.

This tool is garbage. Jaws broke on my first use. I threw them down in disgust

The finish is slick. This makes use difficult, though is very pretty. But big flaw was that the jaws did not meet all the way across so we’re unusable.

Don’t buy, the jaw don’t line up, it broke if you attempt to straight them.

When I was deciding which pliers to buy I looked at all the offerings on Amazon and watched a few videos on Youtube. If you do the same and watch those "experts" on YouTube be aware that most of them are floundering around pretending to know what they are doing. One clown didn't fit the return spring, another guy used them upside down, and a woman uses the pliers to pull and then lets go, thus losing all the tension that she generated. Some people complained, in reviews, of jaws that were ragged and sharp and tore the canvas. I am a tool nut and checked these carefully and am completely happy with all the surfaces. I just did a big canvas last night, 34" x 44", so it was quite a handful. The pliers were very helpful and the canvas has come out tight as a drum.I like using unprimed canvas and I think it has a lot more elasticity than the pre-primed stuff. So pliers are much more important if you are using pre-primed. With raw canvas I think you have more flexibility. I wanted to get a pair of canvas pliers because when I did it in the past just using bare fingers, I got a good result but it really made my fingers ache after a while. This latest canvas I use the pliers almost everywhere until I got into the corners when I reverted to fingers. The pliers jaws have a chunk on one jaw side, and a series of steps on the other jaw. I found that the chunk side was fighting the natural geometry and couldn't really be used. But the step side is really good. It engages with the stretcher bar fairly easily and gives you a lot more yanking power. The pliers are surprisingly light. The surface looks like satin chrome plated steel but they must be aluminum or alloy because they are so light. But they are plenty strong enough. They are really good. Buy with confidence.
