Both inputs are for line-level sources (not microphone inputs). There are level controls for both channels, and two separate outputs, one being a stereo mini-plug and the other a stereo RCA. The MX22s is a great problem solver in many different applications. It can help when you connect devices to a home entertainment system, and you have more devices than inputs to your A/V receiver. You can connect a CD player and the output of an MP3 player on the MX22s, and mix them into a single input on the home entertainment system. I bought this to mix audio from a monitor with 1/8” output and laptop/tablet/phone (via a DAC with RCA output) into a set of Sennheiser HD560S headphones. While I do mix different combinations, the main purpose is to be able to combine console game audio with Discord or music. Just as an aside on Discord, as of late 2024 the noise cancellation from the native Discord app on a laptop/tablet far exceeds the console which is why I favor this setup over the console integration because it lets me plug the microphone into the laptop/tablet and then run the audio through the mixer. My previous setup was using a FIFINE 4 channel mixer which costs a little less than half this unit. That mixer is decent and audio fidelity is good however I found that the bass gets significantly attenuated. I find the audio quality from this mixer to be excellent and the volume is such that I do not need to go much higher than 10-25% on the dial so in my case I do not need an amplifier. It really transformed the experience from “functional” to “awesome”. This mixer is an excellent solution to my setup and while it is possible there may be other less expensive options out there, my search has ended.
