I bought a Rollnlock 5 years ago and loved it. I use it to climb the mast on my sailboat. Today I got two more although not from Amazon. They have redesigned it and the latch open mechanism is much better. In fact if you look at online reviews on Youtube there is criticism for how easy it is to get it accidently locked open, which would be very bad. The new one is not going to have that issue. The new one is orange on one side and black on the other. The writing is different as well. You can see pictures on the CT website. The photo on this offering is of the old one but that does not mean that the product is old. You might want to contact the vendor before buying it.

Using this as a work positioning device in rope access. Can also quickly set up a 3:1 to ascend. Pretty happy with it.

Better made and easier to handle than other popular ascenders IMO. I prefer this one over the Kong Duck and the Ropeman 1 or 2.

Ho da anni un bloccante Petzl Mini. Ho comprato questo CT RollNlock per affiancarlo. Sono rimasto molto sorpreso. Piccolo, leggero, comodissimo.

Beware that CT has a notice on specific batch numbers which have a possibly defective latching mechanism which means your device could accidentally become locked open. The one I received was in the included batch numbers, but a self-test showed it was not defective. It would be good if the product page showed it's batch number.

After a lot of research, I used this for some roof inspections, as a backup for fall (slip) protection on 6:12 sloped metal roofs with scattered rain showers. (I'm a structural engineer.) I would not necessarily use it for a vertical drop with significant impact load, rather it was more for use where there could be a relatively small impact if I had slipped, fallen, and started to slide down the roof. Great device in such a small 'package.' (And, I haven't even used it for some of the other features it has.)One photo shows where I disconnected in order to move freely along the ridge line. In order to go up/down the opposite side of the roof, I of course had to disconnect and rotate device 180-degrees. But, it's very quick to remove and reattach to the rope mid-length.For ascent, it just follows along with you, no need to pull it by hand or pull the rope through, such as if you used a belay device you'd have to pull the rope through. For descent you need to hold it with your hand to rotate the clamp (cam) out, but if you let go, then it springs back to lock in place.(Note: I know that the quickdraw carabiner setup in the photo was not the ideal attachment, as opposed to a locking carabiner through the device, but it was the best I had at the time.)

It is light and compact. I used it attached to a 9mm rope without any issues. I also used it to make a zip line. The teeth have great grip without damaging the rope. When in use, it just glides through the rope and acts quickly when stoping a fall.I would recommend this product.

This thing is like the leatherman wave of vertical accessories. It's too small and versatile to be the perfect tool for any specific task, but it's so small and versatile that I end up using it more than I'd like to admit. It's never the first thing I think of when I plan a setup on the ground, but I find myself turning to this tiny monster for many quick tasks when I'm already up there. It's really too small to handle comfortably, and it's definitely not a one handed tool, and it's not secured to anything while you handle it so you need to be extra careful, and It's just generally annoying to fiddle with if you're in a hurry, but it's always there because it's very light and useful, and it can almost always do the job. It's the same love hate relationship I had with the wave for the first 5 years I was using it, until I learned to appreciate it for what it was. They're both not the best at anything but they are always around and they will get things done.

Great product. I love it's size, and versatility. Less cumbersome compared to the Petzl Traxion. Over all a great buy for the price.Loss of one star has to do with is operational performance. When used as a pulley on a fixed point. You need to make sure you are pulling strait down. You need to use an oval or a pear ring style carabiner. If you use a D shaped carabiner, the rollnlock will sit at an angel when under load, causing your rope to jump slightly out of the sheave( pulley wheel). If you have the cleat in an 'bite' position, this can cause your rope to pull the cleat around and can lock the cleat in the open position. You also can not side load the the rollnlock, or else the above will occur. It is also difficult to release the cleat from the open position when under load. Even if you quickly take the load off with one hand, trying to release the cleat so it can grab the rope can be difficult.Due to it's width. On D and Pear shaped carabiners, you can not pass the RollnLock to the opposing side of your carabiner. So on a pulley position like shown in the photo. If you need to relocate frequently. You will need to pass remove the RollnLock first before disconnecting from your point. Then connect your biner to your new anchor point, before reconnecting the RollnLock. If you relocate frequently, this extra step may become annoying. It is great for strait up and down, as pulley. You just need to make sure you don't side load it and use a correct carabiner.
