The "fingernail" grind is a popular edge with woodturners because it is easy to use and control and extremely versatile. Pull and push cuts, delicate shearing cuts, or full profile cuts can be made with ease. The medium grind lends itself to easy modification, allowing you to create profiles specifically suited to your turning requirements. Overall length 16-1/2".

A very nice gouge for the money. Sharp when it arrived, holds its edge and easy to reshape and hone. Recommend this to any wood turner.

Love this for the intricate work on the lathe. It was sharp out of the box. Very very careful when sharpening this on a grinder, it is very easy to remove too much material. Manual sharpening with a fine stone is recommended.

As always a quality tool from Robert Sorby. They cost a bit more but remember you get what you pay for. A beginner may not need these but a pro will enjoy the quality of steel they use.

As a wood turner there are a certain chisel brads in the market you must have them in your workshop, I would say that this is one of them. It’s worth the money as it’s well made, nicely balanced in the hands. It came pre sharpened.

I am trying to improve my turning skills by learning how to”ride the bevel”—look and learn on YouTube. This is a capable gouge to practice fine-turning (and finishing) skills with less grabbing and tear out than a larger gouge would involve. And, I can polish/hone the edge of this to truly get a finish cut (minimal sanding.) I’m still in the market for a half-inch gouge (and you will too) but this is a good learning step, with a quality-built tool!

Excellent shape and sharpness straight out of the box, can do finer work now with this gouge than I could with my larger ones.

This is a great gouge for those fine areas of work or for those smaller projects, such as pen turning. It's a great tool to have in your workspace and once you use it you'll wonder how you got along without one.My only issue and it's am issue I find with most tools with this type of handle is that while it may be comfortable for a number of users, I'd you have larger hands like I do maintaining a good grip isn't always easy and I find it slipping away from me into the workpiece. The only reason I bought it with this handle was the price. I generally purchase my tools to fit into one of my handles with collets. With this type of handle however I generally cut them away and either grind down the shaft until it fits in one of my handles or I turn a handle for it from a piece of 3"x3"x12" piece of whatever I might have at that time. Having custom turned handles is so much more comfortable.
