I had really high hopes for the MetroX and still do, but as it stands today, it still feels unpolished. The scanner works well, and the kit includes a small turntable which can be wirelessly controlled, but the software leaves much to be desired. The software is slow and crashes frequently - especially the longer that you have it open (ie, the more likely it is that you're doing something important!). "Out of memory" errors are common even on my machines that have 64gb of RAM. The MetroX was initially advertised as requiring an Nvidia GPU, but that was walked back and now it does not use the GPU at all - which makes for painfully slow scanning speeds and even slower processing.Scanning performance is slow - 2-3fps and you will need a *lot* of frames (2000-10000+) to get a good scan, which runs the risk of the app crashing while you're scanning. The scan modes (which are in a different place in the Revoscan for MetroX software than the normal Revoscan software, FYI - I couldn't find feature mode at first) leave a lot to be desired as well; in marker mode, you need a LOT of markers and they need to be relatively close together due to the low FOV of the scanner. In feature mode, the unit loses tracking so often that it's very hard to get a good scan. Scanning spray is a must in feature mode.If you do lose tracking and don't want to abandon your scan, you can painstakingly go through the frames and remove the "bad" ones to try to save a scan that is glitchy, but again you run the risk of crashing (plus it's very frustrating to browse the thousands of frames to find ones that don't look right). Other scanners don't seem to have as much trouble staying "locked in" as the MetroX does, for some reason.Once you get your scan complete, the auto processing mode is "OK, not great". Merging scans is about the same as other Revopoint units - it works OK. The scan quality is good, but everything ends up with an orange peel texture on it that is very annoying - hopefully this can be removed in software updates. After you finally get the scan done and exported, the quality of the scans is good - but the amount of work it takes to get a good scan, and the annoyance of the crashes, and the odd quality issues with the texture of the scans, mean that this might be a product that is worth keeping an eye on but not buying until the software matures. If they can add GPU support and speed things up / make it more reliable, this will be a killer product - lets hope they can do that without having to redo the hardware as well.

There is a learning curve to this scanner, but once you learn how to use it it is truly amazing. This scanner will require a slightly more computer savvy user, but it is as accurate as it advertises. Highly recommend to have at least 32 GB RAM with a fairly new processor with at least 6 cores (more cores preferred), and desktop recommended due to laptop performance limited to size/power restrictions. The program will still struggle with the minimum hardware, but this scanner is the least demanding I have used. This will work on most mid-grade computers without having to have an Nvidia specific GPU - although one may help it run smoother.HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Hi everyone,🤔💻👉🏽3D printing is an exciting but challenging journey, and as a beginner, I’ve found that the learning curve is quite steep. There’s a lot of research involved in finding the right applications and ensuring that scans turn out well. Despite following instructions closely, I ran into multiple errors, which made the process frustrating. Some scans came out fine, but others were completely off, and I couldn’t always pinpoint why. It could be due to my inexperience, but at times, the software itself felt a bit glitchy, adding to the challenge. Trial and error is definitely a big part of this process, and anyone getting into 3D printing should be prepared to invest time in tutorials and troubleshooting.📚🤓👉🏽Even with the frustrations, I love the idea of creating 3D images and learning how to refine the process. However, the constant error warnings were discouraging, especially when I was sure I was doing things correctly. It’s clear that truly mastering this skill requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to keep learning. Hopefully, in a few months, I’ll have a smoother experience and a better understanding of how to get more consistent results.I hope this review helps!! 📚🤓📚

Not dependable Always giving scan errors. Using the turn table to scan small artifacts and if it is white like the model that it ships with it will scan. If you try to scan something off white to tan you almost always get errors. First you see an alignment fail then a few lost tracking errors you end up with a really messed up result. I scanned a bone fish hook and after trying every setting I finally got a scan. Holes in the surface (some large) made it useless. Scanned the same item with a 10+ year old red laser scanner with very good image that was printable. If you try to scan something light brown to black you get all errors . I had it in the turntable mode and scan black items set and no matter what depth and camera settings it never would track. As for dot scanning don't waste your time. Very happy with my ender v3 printer, so I will try the raptor pro. Budget prevents a raptorX. Returned.

This scanner delivers impressive accuracy, making it a solid choice for detailed scans. It handles metal and darker objects well, which can be tricky for some scanners. The blue laser technology helps capture fine details, and the included software adds some useful tools. Setup takes a bit of time, but once it’s going, the results are worth it. Great option for those needing precision in their 3D projects!

This scanner is awesome. It does require a learning curve. It can be a little frustrating until you understand how to scan. Once you get past the learning curve its pretty simple. The software is very good and could use slight improvement. I'm sure they are always tweaking it. I would really like to see a feature on setting the origin. That would help when you export it. Otherwise you have to move the origin to where you want it in other CAD software. This is pretty standard with all scanners for some reason. You do and will need a powerhouse computer. Don't think you will get good performance with an older computer. I have an i9 12th gen with 64GB or ram and I get about 44 to 47 frames per second. Its pretty smooth. I tried it on a 3rd gen i7 and it laughed at me. I got like 4 frames per second and frequent crashes. There is no way around needing performance. I am running a GTX3060 at the moment and it does pretty well. If you can get the kit with the extra tracking blocks I would. I 3D printed my own and put tracking dots on them and saved some money. I was very impressed with the accuracy and quality of my scans so far. Sometimes it loses tracking if you dont have enough dots and it can mess up the scan so make sure you have tracking markers in stock.

I have several consumer 3D scanners, and the MetroX is absolutely the clear winner of those. Everything from the case + accessories to the software are several steps up from the other ones I have used. 3D scanners have a learning curve, so if you are new to scanners expect to invest some time learning how to get the best scans possible. The MetroX consistently is giving me the best quality scans and the software is substantially better at the de-noising and cleaning up the scan to give me a workable file I can then modify in my CAD software. This will replace all the other ones I am using - it is well worth it. I have been using it with an M2 Max chip, and had no issues with low frame rates or crashing software.
