If you buy this controller for your vehicle make sure you get the correct plug adapter it does not come with a plug for your vehicle. Installation was real easy. Plug and Play for 99 Chevy Silverado . All I had to do was plug in the adapter that I bought separately and still install it on the dash and plug it in. Already pulled a 20 ft travel trailer without any problems brakes work 100%

Easy to install and works well, only issue I have with the one I received is the indicator light on the controller does not work properly

I ordered this unit specifically because it is supposed to be plug and play with my Nissan Frontier. I read through ALL of the reviews and questions and was reasonably confident that this unit should plug right in and work. Instead of arriving with a wiring harness matching my truck it arrived with just pigtails (no connector at all). The wires had divits in them that were obviously from a connector having been attached to them at one point in the past which was subsequently removed. This makes me suspect that this unit was actually returned to the manufacturer and then sold to me (I did not order a referb unit, I paid for new). From reading other reviews on this product it seem like a very common occurrence to either not have a connector or to not have the advertised connector, so be ware. It seems like Reese has very sloppy inventory control and ships you "something" close to what you asked for. So I spent yet more money to buy a matching harness and crimped it to the pigtails. The unit is now installed in the truck. As I've also read in the reviews, there's no indication that the unit is powered or even functional unless a trailer is attached. So again, be ware. Since I don't pick up the trailer until 2 days before our vacation I won't know if I did the wiring correctly or even know if the (possibly referb) unit is even functional until it will be too late to return it. I may just be going without brakes on our vacation. In that case anyone who wants this unit can find it somewhere in a ditch next to I84 between Portland and Boise.

My truck came with a"tow package" from Ford yet no electric brake controller. My prior 2007 F250 had a Ford brake controller that constantly threw an error code with my travel trailer. Hooked my Reese controller in my 2011 using the Ford wiring harness and it was a 4 wire simple process. Towed 400 miles round trip without any problems with the new Reese controller, even locked up the brakes when dialed up up too high. My old OEM controller in my old truck wouldn't do anything with the same trailer. basic little controller that does the job on my 6500lb 2 axle trailer.

I recently purchased the Reese Towpower 74377 Pod Brake Controller and was pleased with how easy it was to hook up to my ’08 Ford F-150. I also purchased the Reese Towpower 74437 Brake Control Adapter Harness through Amazon.Com which connected perfectly to my truck’s OEM connector. Under the “Others who purchased the above, also purchased…” notation, Amazon recommended that I also purchase the Hopkins 48615 Mounting Bracket, which I did, but found that I really didn’t need it (not sure how to mount it, anyway, as it came with no instructions). The Pod controller comes with a small bracket, but it isn’t mentioned in the product description; not sure why. Maybe so people will buy a bracket.A point of confusion, however, was when, after having connected the controller, I could not get the green power indicator light to come on. I spent some time checking the ground and power connections, all of which checked out fine, but still no light. After checking the Troubleshooting guide, I learned that one possible reason for this is that there must be a trailer connected to the vehicle. Who knew? I called the manufacturer and he confirmed this. So, just be aware.Overall, even though I have not had the benefit of years of use in rating this product, for the short time I have used it, I am pleased and impressed. I would put it up against other similar products costing double what I paid for it. I hope your experience with it is as pleasant as mine has been so far.

A fine unit that came with good instructions (except as noted below). It works fine.My 2013 Toyota Sienna Van says that it has a 3500 # towing capacity when equipped with their "trailer towing package" This package includes HD radiator, alternator, and an oil cooler, but NO TRAILER WIRING HARNESS !>> First - Buy the correct trailer light wiring kit for your vehicle (CURT Manufacturing 56106 T-Connector for my Sienna) $50, but just clips into existing wiring harness and includes the black box converter needed to merge modern vehicle separate brake and turn signals back to what most trailers need. This will get you your running lights, turn signals and brake lights. Splice into the brake input side of this to tell the brake controller the brakes are on – see dialogue below.>> Use a section of 12 gauge outdoor extension cord to run from battery to Brake Controller, and hence to back of vehicle. This gave me three #12 wires -- 1) 12v power supply to trailer, 2) Brake control wire from controller to trailer, and 3) a “brake light on” signal wire from brake lights back to the brake controller. The brake controller instructions say to pick up off the “hot when braking” side of the brake pedal switch, but it is not so easy to pick up off the brake pedal switch anymore. It is not just an open/closed 12v switch - For reasons unknown it has 4 teeny wires connected to it, so I was reluctant to cut in to something I did not understand.
