My family members and I were interested in getting into wine and learning more than just taste. This kit seemed promising but we just can't get into it. The box smells like green pepper. I don't know why because none of the bottle leaked. The set is very nice quality. The scents are very true to life. It's been fun doing blind sniff tests to see how accurate we are. The younger members definitely have better sniffers than us older ones. We have now signed up for an upcoming tasting so we can put our knowledge to the test.

Much to my dad's disappointment, I've never liked wine. However, my partner does and we both have worked in the coffee industry, which does make use of similar kits. We've also participated in coffee cuppings and practiced identifying aromas. Thus we thought this Wine Savant Red Wine Aroma Kit with 15 aromas would be fun and test our ability to identify scents, some of which would be shared with coffee.Each of the 15 small bottles seals well, but the scents are extremely concentrated and pungent. Just opening the box and particularly a bottle meant the aroma permeated the room for hours. Only a very tiny amount is needed on one of the paper strips provided (there are plenty). We did find, though, that the scent was slightly different on the strips, especially after some time had passed. Scents were most distinct directly from the bottles.We hid the answer key so as to not be biased. We each independently wrote down answers, trying one to three scents a day over a period of hours. Then we had friends help us using the same methods. We all found scents generally seemed "fruity", "perfumey", or totally unfamiliar. Some results I wrote down were "old spice soap", "wet drywall", and "musty used bookstore." These, of course, were wrong. In fact, 100% of the (more realistic) guesses were wrong -- from all the people who tested! While none of us completely agreed on many scents, I will say that one of the aromas in particular was immediately recognized as the same thing by every single tester -- and it was identified in the kit as something entirely different which we all strongly disagreed with. A few others didn't reach agreement by all our testers, but we were unanimous in our disagreement with the kit's identification of those scents.I'm not saying anything was mislabeled, or the quality of the kit is poor (although it is not listed in any "top" kits I found). But I also think it's unlikely that all testers had a poor sense of smell. One friend also uses aromatherapy, and after our collective failure we did a blind sniffing of some of her oils. We had much more success identifying or coming closer with those. By contrast, many of the aromas in the kits often had an unnatural or chemical smell.This kit has PLENTY of liquid in each bottle, so we are going to continue having others help us to see how they fare. We actually had a lot of fun with this, and group surprise/outrage strengthened our bonds of friendship. But my uncertainty of why we were so miserable at identifications (us? the kit?) has made me knock off a couple of stars.

What a fantastic gift for someone who enjoys wine! I had no idea such a thing existed. It’s unlikely that the average nose and tastebuds will know exactly what it’s all about, but the gift is more of a cool, unique experience more than it is practical—and that’s okay.

I did this kit with a few friends, and we enjoyed learning more about wine aromas. There are a few things to keep in mind with this kit:1. It is not wine, but instead just pure aroma. So, there is no alcohol at all in this kit.2. each bottle comes with a drip/squeeze cap that is supposed to let you drip it onto the provided paper strips. But these drip caps did not work most of the time so we ended up needing to take the whole thing off and dip the sticks into the bottles.3. I am not an expert on wine, but the smells tended to be accurate. We were using this as a guessing game, and even though we couldn't always guess it, once we revealed the scent and smelled it again, we could smell it once we knew what to look for.Me and my friends enjoyed using this kit. I am not sure if it's worth the money, but maybe some people would think so. Either way, it is a high quality kit and I'm happy with it.

What a fun way to learn abouts wines. Although shrink wrapped in plastic and boxed, I could smell the wonderment inside. Each glass botle is labled 1-15 with an answer sheet that identifies corresponding wine varieties. Although spendy, this set offers a unique and fun way to learn more about red wine.
