Thanks to traditional bell brass body construction, they deliver incredible projection and classic resonator tone. The Recording King RM-997-VG features a 9.5" hand-spun European Recording King cone, a mahogany neck and a hard maple bridge. The aged green patina finish is oxidized like it's been played on a swampy porch for years. From professional artists to beginners, these resonators have made a huge impression on players looking for classic resonator tone and vintage inspiration.

My partner is a big Martin guitar fan, has always played acoustic and sometimes electric. Mark Knopfler has made him always want a resonator guitar for his 40th birthday. I made this purchase and I couldn’t be happier. It’s been several weeks and he is in love with the sound and look and pretty much everything about it. This man is, a bit of a guitar snob so if this is something you’re considering for a present for someone else who is a guitar person I would 100% recommend it. It was a huge hit!

I've had the guitar for all of a month now and one of the tuners is already broken--out of the box, though, they looked like trash. Another reviewer had mentioned poor neck quality and I strongly agree. I currently own six guitars including this one, two of which I built myself. The neck is probably one of the least playable necks I've encountered: the fretboard is "finicky"--requiring that you give a higher level of attention to finger placement and technique than on most other guitars. Yes, your fingers are going to get dirty the first few weeks of playing--from whatever the black coating is on the fretboard. Intonation is not properly set: 12th harmonic and 12th fretted notes are not the same note. Should be able to cope with this by filing down the nut--still haven't looked to see if the bridge is adjustable. If this guitar went through QA--QA needs to seriously up their game. All the same, the guitar creates some really beautiful tones when it gets the right attention and technique. The neckboard isn't a deal-breaker: it's not so bad it needs to be replaced, IMO; it's pretty far from turn-key, though. And that's the unfortunate bit: at this price point, I'd expect not to have to pull out my tools and get to work on making this guitar more playable.Do I have buyers remorse? Maybe not. I think I still would have bought the guitar even if I had played it in a showroom. Will I buy from Recording King again?--no. Next time, I'll suck it up and pay the difference for either a properly "American made" guitar, or a guitar that has renowned build quality. Lesson learned.

I purchased this for my 22-year old granddaughter who has been playing guitar as a hobby for the past few years. She has a strong interest in bluegrass music and when I showed her this one online, she loved it. Just arrived a few days ago and she loves it even more. My son-in-law is a professional musician (guitar player) agrees it's a great entry-level resonator and loves both the sound and the look.
