Replaced my OEM latch with this product on my 2003 4Runner Limited. Had to return it as it didn't line or up quite properly to work with the auto close function. Got a replacement OEM off Amazon and the OEM replacement works well.

This works great as a replacement for an affordable price, but in my particular hatch the problem was the controller that’s located near it in the hatch. Just keep this in mind and do proper testing.

Nice product. Fits and works like the original. Came with foam attached. Draws the hatch in and you can hear it lock.

Easy install plug and play. Make sure to disconnect the battery after install for 3mins, after reconnecting, put keys in ignition to ON but NOT starting engine, and cycle the door lock on the door 3 times to reset door lock computer. I.e. hit (1)lock then unlock(2)lock then unlock(3)lock then unlock. Done.Theirs a handful of YouTube videos on how to do all of this complete uninstall/install process. The motor in the actuator felt/sounds significantly more powerful than pervious one.

Purchased this product to replace the factory latch mechanism on my 05 4Runner that had failed and would not reopen without using the manual release. The factory unit would close and lock but would not reopen using the normal latch release button. After replacing it with this new one, the new one continued to do the same thing. Luckily, I also purchased a Toyota genuine replacement which was much more expensive but I knew it would work if this aftermarket part did not, and it’s a good thing I did because as soon as this aftermarket unit didn’t work either I installed the new Toyota genuine and it worked just fine, problem fixed. I’m trying to be objective and only rating this part 3 stars instead of 1 or 0 because I can’t with complete certainty rule out that maybe just maybe the control module that this plugs into isn’t also sending a weird command to this unit that could be causing it to use too little or too much force and is therefor unlatching as a safety precaution. I don’t think this is the case because the new aftermarket would fail in the locked position and not reopen, but like I said I can’t rule it out. Nevertheless, the Toyota genuine part fixed it perfectly and quickly. You can also tell the build quality of this aftermarket is no match for the Toyota parts quality.
