A modulator for the times, this compact device allows connection of an audio/video component, especially a TV that's not equipped with an audio video jack. It's ideal for DVD players, gaming, digital cameras or camcorders and mounts easily to a wall. No flipping through the remote as this component automatically switches when it detects an incoming video source.

My toddler pulled the flat screen TV off the table the other day, and, while I was able to save his head, the TV was not so lucky. Fortunately, we had our old circa 1980-something TV in the attic, so we brought it down and dusted it off. Alas, the new DVD player does not work with the old TV! I'd hoped this modulator would be the fix, and it kind of is, in that, well, we can watch DVDs now. However, the sound is SO LOW that we'll have lean in really close and hold our breaths to hear it. We're currently trying to find a work around for the sound problem involving a scavenged boat speaker, so we'll see. Worst case scenario, we go a month or two without. I'm pretty sure we won't die. We have lots of books, board games, playing cards, marshmallows to roast... We'll be okay, right?

This adapter may have saved me from needing to buy a new TV set. I have to say that while not "top end" its anything but "Cheap, garbage" that you will not know if it will even last a day of use. I have a few RCA devices hooked up into a switch (multi in and one out) where the out of THAT adapter goes to the RCA inputs of this unit.... I have had NO problem on any device and to be 100% honest ... the picture quality is BETTER then when I had RCA connectors directly into the RCA connectors of my TV (the picture was darker than it should have been and not as sharp as it is now.... eventually the RCA connectors ON THE tv "went bad" and while I am sure I could get the skills to fix it ... this Adapter allows me not to have to worry about fixing it for now)The one issue is that "switch" inside the unit that changes from say your TV tuner to the RCA device when that device is turned on ... It's just my personal opinion but I'd rather have an 'on/off" switch for this or an "RCA/Coax" switch on the side but that's not to say the automatic switcher is not working, so far It has been NO PROBLEMIf you need a device like this, I'd recommend it as like me a simple adapter like this could save you from having to buy an entirely new TV for example.

Rather than pay the local cable company another $10 per month to rent a digital multi-room DVR cable box for our bedroom TV (which is still an old school tube tv!), I bought this awesome little device. I have our main DVR plugged into the living room TV via hdmi cable. When I noticed that the box also had RCA outputs, I checked to be sure A/V was passing through those, too. Sure enough it was, so I connected the RCA cables to this RF Modulator, then connected it to the coax cable running to the bedroom. The picture is actually really nice. We had an SD cable box in our bedroom with a previous cable company, and the picture wasn't that great. Plus, the box wouldn't downgrade HD programming to SD, so we could only watch the SD stations. Now we can watch the HD channels with no problem on our old tube (the cable box has to downgrade the HD to SD in order to pump it through the RCA cables).Bottom line, this was well worth the money to save me from paying another $10 to the cable company. Granted, you have to watch the same thing on both TVs, but that's not a problem for us. Also, not sure exactly what the picture would look like on an HD TV.

I have an old TV which has the old style connecter. The TV screen looks good, and the speakers still work great. Better than most newer TV's come with. This is why I wanted to hang on to it. The RCA Compact RF Modulator was a smart buy because it lets me hood up RCA cables to my TV such as my DVD player. Before, I was using my VCR to hood up to my tv and also to my DVD player. Since I hadn't used the VCR in years, it was just there to let me watch DVDs. I wanted to see if I could streemline my setup a bit and put the ol dVCR away. Many RF modgeulaters were around the same price but this was clamed to be compact. I didn't want something to be big and take up the room I was trying to save by putting my VCR away, so I setteled on this one. What's in the box? Two things, the RCA Compact RF Modulator and an AC connecter. The RCA Compact RF Modulator has three RCA cable connections, an AC connection and one TV and one Antenna connection. I'm assuming it can also be used for cable TV, though I've not tried that yet. Setup was simple, I connected my antenna to the converter box, connected the converter box to the, antenna connection on the Modulator, connected my TV to the TV connecgtion on the Modulator, and connected my DVD player to the RCA ports on the Modulator. I tried to see if it would work without the Modulator being plugged in to power, but this couldn't be done. Not even with the antenna. I plugged it in to power and everything worked like it should. It's been a few weeks with a fare bit of use, watching over the air TV and watching a few DVD's. Not bad for $10.00 if you still want to hang on to an old tv.

Major details: This unit did not work correctly for me right out of the box. Initially I got this unit hooked up and the signal was extremely fuzzy and low quality. The true signal was not getting to the TV correctly. I tried plugging in the power cable from this unit directly into the wall (instead of a power strip). No improvement in signal quality. Finally I changed out the coax cable going from this modulator to the TV and it worked! This second coax cable was much heavier duty than the first one. Signal quality improved and this worked as it should. Not sure if the poor reviews did not try this but is significantly changed my signal with the simple change of a cable.Minor details: I purchased this RF modulator so I could hook up the N64 to the 50 inch Plasma. I know the N64 and Plasma weren't made with each other in mind but everyone needs Mario Cart in their life! The unit is very simple and compact as described in the picture. I've owned other RF modulators and this one is extremely light compared to others so I can only hope holds up over time. This is not heavy duty by any means.
