These traps are great and effective. I hate mice & rats so I appreciate the ease of disposal as well as the set up.

Traps work very well with only a few negatives: 1-squirrels and rats quickly learn to avoid them. 2-birds, chipmunks and mice are not so smart. 3-larger squirrels and/or raccoons will run off with traps stuck on their body.

All the things inherent in old style mouse/rat traps are cured in this model. It is indeed a better trap. Very easy to arm while keeping fingers out of harms way. Tried for the first time and was 2 for 2. The next night I was 1 for 2 but the 2nd trap was still armed. You can easily clean the trap with a garden hose. Highly recommend

The plastic parts break easily when you are setting this system. They did catch a rat or two but I found that the bugs emptied the tray before most rodents were caught. It’s also difficult to wash the smell off the trap so that it is effectively able to be used again. No rats were caught in the trap we didn’t clean well. Over all. An ok choice but there may be better solutions to your rodent problem out there

I got this to reduce the overpopulation of chipmunks that feasted on my tomatoes and strawberries and other garden produce. They just decimated the strawberries... we got 10 berries. They got fat and pugnacious. And they take one bite and go to the next berry for one bite. So although my husband is feeling a bit sorry for them, I am not. There is nothing natural about stealing garden produce. I am not working in that garden to feed chipmunks.Anyway, as for the traps: I still have 4 functional traps after a couple of months' use. One came broken, two broke shortly thereafter but I combined the parts to make a functional trap, so 4 traps still. One is an iffy trap -- not sure it trips anymore. But three are still champs. They caught a lot of chipmunks through the use of peanut butter bait which I did not put in the bait cup, but smeared at the rear of the trap so the chipmunk would have to really crawl in and definitely trip the trap. That has been working very well, and now that the chipmunk population is reduced (alas, not eliminated) we are starting to catch mice -- which is where putting the bait at the rear is really paying off. Mice are just too light to reliably trip the trap, and so making them crawl in is the only way to actually catch them and save the crops.I try to remember to trip the traps before visitors arrive -- since most of the visitors are young kids and tripping a trap would definitely hurt a bare foot. I had one thumb incident, my fault, and so am much more careful about putting that bait toward the back of the trap. (If you go the bait cup route, this is not an issue but the catch rate is lessened.)So how successful? At first, with 5 traps going I was catching 4 to 7 chippies a day. I am down to one a week now. And at first, I rarely caught a mouse... but am now catching 1 or 2 mice a day. I will continue to use these deep into the fall, and bring them out next year well before the strawberries start to ripen. No sharing any more. All in all, I wish these were sturdier and longer lasting and always tripped when the bait was stolen from the bait cup. (Using the bait cup definitely lessens the catch rate.) But if they do their job for a season, I'll think I got my money's worth. Even with the thumb incident.

I live in a fairly rural town in the South, where animals of all shapes and size are commonly seen in my garden - or heard at night. I'd been having a problem with a rat getting into the wall of the house. I'd found the entry point and blocked it but was concerned that the rat might actually be trapped in the house - if it was, then its efforts to get out could cause lots of problems, or, potentially equally badly, it might get trapped and expire somewhere in the walls, and the dealing with the process of decomposition over a month or so wasn't something I wanted to contemplate.I placed several of the traps at different places in the unfinished basement, in the crawl space, and in a bare earth area under the house. I baited with peanut butter (very easy to do). The traps were strong, but baiting wasn't difficult. They're plastic but feel solid and well made, plus I wasn't concerned about accidentally catching my fingers whilst putting the bait in the special compartment.I went out in the evening, returning about 11.30pm. The house had been silent and empty in the interim. When I got home I checked all of the traps and found one very dead rat neatly squashed in one of them. An almost immediate success, I was delighted. What you need to know: Well constructed traps, light and easy to manage and to bait. The traps don't have a 'hair-trigger' like some, but if a rodent tries to feed then the mechanism is easily (and successfully!) triggered. Taking out the dead rat and disposing of it was easy, I just carried the trap outside and dropped the rat into a bag by simply pressing down and opening the mouth of the trap - I didn't have to touch the dead animal at all. The bait receptacle is removable and thus washable (though, obviously, you'd need to be mindful of hygiene). The way the trap works means the actual kill tends be fairly bloodless, so there's no need to clean up or to worry about any 'uck' factor. Lastly, the trap is easily reused - I still have all of the traps I bought and all are still in full working order.I originally bought these traps about 2 years ago. I haven't had any rats in the house since then, but when I've noticed rodent activity close to the house or occasionally in the garage, I've used them with - so far - 100% success.I'm extremely happy - they're reliable and easy to use.
