I used *several* of these to make myself a grass skirt for a Tahiti-night on a recent cruise. It turn out great and looked authentic. Not quite sure about the value since after getting about 3/4 of the way through my project, I found completed grass skirts on Amazon for about 1/4 of the cost of making my own, but on the bright side, now that I'm home, the quality and durability means I can use the raffia for other projects.

I use this raffia ribbon for my Etsy shop. When I send out orders, wrap the miniature items so that when my customer receives it, it is like they got a gift. The ribbon is sturdy and looks really good on packages. I have seen some projects online where people use this to crochet projects. Wish I knew how to do that, as it looks so good for that use. I am really pleased with this ribbon.

Very thin and the advertisement makes the roll look so much bigger than it actually is. Not sure if this is false advertisement but it sure seems like it. Although it's incumbent on the buyer to research the exact sizes, someone with difficulty understanding or reading would definitely have the impression that they are getting a much bigger roll- both in height, width and quantity...... I have none of those limitations and was shocked at how small it actually is in comparison to the photo in the advertisement.

I wasn't sure about this when I got it for my basketry classes -- is it plant raffia or is it paper? Apparently you can call similar paper products "raffia" which this is. The main benefit is that it's absolutely color-fast, even when wet, unlike dyed plant raffia that I've bought in the past. It will shred when wet if not handled carefully, but you can get it damp and it sews just like plant raffia when doing coiled baskets. It might actually be an interesting element if shredded into handmade paper pulp.

I've never worked with raffia before, and wasn't entirely sure what to expect. My husband found a pattern online (Raffie Sun Hat), and I've been working on that.Initial thoughts: getting the plastic that encased the raffia off took some time. But then it was easy to find the end to start working, as it was taped down.Crocheting with this takes some focus, and is tough on the hands. First off, just in that the paper is a bit rough, but also it takes some effort to complete the stitches. No gliding smoothly along here.The first rows/rounds of any project are almost always the hardest. That was especially so here. Partly, I'm sure, that I've never used this, but just in general, it was hard to manage tension in that first bit, and it just seemed like I needed another hand. Or two.Now that I've finished the crown and bucket of the hat, I am feeling fairly confident with the raffia. But I still can't really handle more than maybe two rounds without a break.It is really fun to watch this hat appear though. So I am enjoying the work.I am certainly not going to give up my soft, squishy yarn, but I can see making more raffia projects, and this has served me well.

Was under the impression that this product is able to be used as yarn for crochet. But turned out it's too stiff for that purpose. It normally takes about three minutes to crochet a 4" x 4" square but this ribbon takes more than fifteen minutes due to the stiffness. So sad that it didn't work out since I have a specific Halloween crochet project with this black ribbon in mind. However, this ribbon is still considered to be good quality that is strong and durable and great for other crafts and decor, just not for crocheting.
