- #111 in Radio Antennas

I found that the radio vastly improves broadcast FM range, nothing on the weather band, and I didn't test anything else, as I was looking for FM improvement. It's literally 2x the original antenna length.

The antenna works. It is competitively priced. It is a 13” antenna. And it arrived in a 4 1/2” package. It is not vertical as shown in all the photos. It looks like a bent carrot. See it compared to a similar antenna (left) properly packaged and shipped.

Note that this review is for the "Tri-Band Flex Antenna RHD-771S", since all the reviews seem to get mixed together.First, I have to say that I'm an HT addict! I own upwards of (30) GMRS & HAM radios. I stumbled on to this antenna on Black Friday for a great price, so I bought two.I have not put them on a VNA to test the SWR, but initial signal strength tests show there was very little (if any) difference in performance between this antenna and the $21 Nagoya NA-320A antenna.Update: I did have a chance to test the match on the antenna with an SWR meter and it was 1.5:1 or below on all bands. With most of my new HAM radios now covering the 220 MHz band costing only $25 - $30, why spend $21 on just the antenna? I have bought a few of the NA-320A antennas (which appears to be the only other good 144/220/440 antenna out there) but didn't want to buy 10 more at that price. This antenna works great at a fraction of the cost. Plus I like the fact that this antenna is a couple inches shorter than the NA-320A. (13.7" vs 15.7") About the only issue I have is the way these antennas are shipped "wound up" in a 5" x 5" bag. Come on sellers, you can do better than that! (note that the antenna can be easy bent back into shape)So far, I've had no issues with these. I'll report back with any new information worth sharing.Update on 1/7/25:I was so impressed with the performance and build quality of this antenna, I decided to buy a few more.So far, I've used this antenna on the Quansheng UV-K6, TIDRADIO H3 and Baofeng UV-25. I bought a few more for my Radtel RT-890, Baofeng 5RM and Baofeng K61.Update on 1/22/25:You guessed it, I bought another one of these antennas for a new tri-band radio that is on the way!

Doesn't work any better than stock antenna. I tried using this on a Baofeng BF-F8HP Pro. Yes, it could be a problem with overload or spurious emissions common to Baofeng units, but bottom line it didn't work any better than stock; stock was able to pick up several channels that it couldn't, and the signal was stronger on those that both picked up. I wasn't even using the dedicated stock airband antenna which will likely be superior to both. Tried it with and without rubber gasket. The gasket is also too big and I had to cut it down. Overall, a waste.

I have a TalkPod A36 Pro Intl version and I have this mostly for the ability to listen to planes in the local area and occasionally listen to the locals on repeaters. This antenna even though tuned for Aviation Bands 108-136mhz which it still allows better than stock antenna's reception on the higher bands. When it comes to aviation bands on my A36 it is definitely a vast improvement over the stock antenna for sure. It is much longer but is very flexible and can bent down to fit in a case or removed easily. This antenna gets plans communicating with ATC at a distance maximum in my area of over 80 miles away. I cant hear the local airports tower (rarely at night inside) but if I go outside the airport is about 6 miles away and I can make out the ATIS as well as the tower and departure and clearance delivery channels without issue. The old antenna could never hear the tower or ATIS so there is a vast improvement with this antenna. Great Buy fast Shipping and Works great you cant go wrong! NOT just for RADTEL Radios at all. Fits most handheld.

Although I wasn't necessarily a fan of these modern "tactical" (?) antennas that fold, it seemed like it was going to be better than the original antenna that came on my Radtel RT-490. I was not really impressed with it's receive or transmit and had hoped this might make a difference.Well, I'm impressed. After installing, I noticed immediate improvement in receive. Transmit seems much better although I haven't had any QSOs using this antenna just yet. But I gotta say the receive is so much better, even on air band. The ability to fold it is nice since it is long; you can still receive when folded but performance is much better unfolded. I strapped the included velcro to the antenna unfolded, so that it will always be there when I do want to fold it.

Haven't used it a lot but seems to give me better range/clarity of signal. The folding option is great because I can leave it folded down unless I need the extra pickup.
