This Rode VideoMic is perfect for "little mic purposes".It's way better than just relying on your phone mic and the windshield is great at reducing background noise/ wind (go figure lol).I like that you don't have to fumble with a cable when you need to record something super quick. You just pop the mic in and record. I didn't have to download the Rode app or anything; it just worked right out of the box.

Einfache Installation, gute Ergebnisse. Macht wirklich einen Unterschied zum (ohnehin schon recht guten) eingebauten Mikrofon. Hauptsächlich gekauft, da wir auch gerne Videos am Boot machen und dort die Windgeräusche meist den Originalton unbrauchbar machten. Vorteil dieses Produkts, dass man es im Gegensatz zu Lavaliermikrofonen nicht aufladen muss, sondern einfach nur anstecken.

I was hesitant to get this mic reading all the reviews, but decided to pull the trigger anyway because this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I am a full time student using an app (glean) to record my professors lectures in class. Only problem is the professors move around when lecturing to try to continue to hold students attention, at times moving away from my default iPad mic. When I couldn’t see the mic bar picking up sound it got me worried. On playback it was recording audio but increasing the gain like crazy, you can hear a wind sound on the default mic. Come this rode mic. At first I installed the rode apps to try to update the firmware, as mentioned in other reviews, but that didnt work because this mic specifically isnt detected by rode central, see https://rode.com/en-us/software/rode-central#section-compatible-products for compatible devices. Then I read that you just plug in and go, which was VERY weird to me, as im use to swapping mic inputs. Upon recording this mic just works. The recordings it took were very clear and filtered out all the random noise my default mic was picking up. Very easy to use, almost too easy. Great price. Solidly built. The only thing i would want is a case, as when not in use putting it in a small protective case then tossing it in the backpack would be nice.

EDIT: comment does not apply for iphones 15 and above.The mic has a usb-c plug only. In order to use it with an iPhone, the only way would be an adapter which comes in dongle shape, that is: don't expect to plug the mic straight into the phone as shown on picture, but rather get your mic hanging in the air like a Christmas ball.

So I actually ordered this on accident thinking it was a normal shotgun (mic). Turns out its a mini shotgun mic meant for phone recordings etc. With our phones having such great quality audio recordings, this isn't a HUGE step up in terms of the sound of the audio, BUT it does allow for you to get a much more directional audio as a shotgun would. This is a great resource at a great price. Again, sound is not bad so it's definitely going to provide a good sounding audio. Also, quick tip, if you want a better sound run it through adobe podcast. it's their free website, you just upload the clip and it will do EQ adjustment, and have this sounding like star wars studio mix and mastered your audio.

Iphone 16 running ios 18 will not recognize this mic. Called customer support. They were patient and tried to get it working but in the end, they gave up and said the item is likely defective outside of the box.

As my first product from RØDE I had no previous knowledge or experience with them. Right off the bat, it is funny how large the filter is. It works well blocking wind and some unwanted sound making the audio nice and smooth. Build quality is nice and at the size of the mic it is easy to pack on the go. I like the 3.5mm pass through to listen hear what the microphone is hearing. I find it annoying the way the usb c is oriented with the little adapter. Removing the adapter allowed me to use the mic without removing my phone case. Without doing that, I don’t know what type of phone case wouldn’t have interference. I played some recordings for family and friends to hear the difference between my built in microphone (15 pro max) and all were able to tell the difference with all noting the better fuller sound was the RØDE microphone.

I’ve been using RODE mics for years and never been disappointed with the quality to value ratio. Typically, you get more than what you pay for, considering the often reasonable prices of their products. I expected the same from this mic, but I think expectations finally caught up. With prices for everything on the rise, I think you get what you pay for here. Cheapish sound from a cheapish mic.My hope for this was that we could easily cut through the ambient noise and capture a cleaner speaking-level voice in a crowd. The results were okay. To get the sound we were hoping for, we had to put in almost as much effort in post as we would have capturing from a super cheapy clip mic or even just directly from the phone.Again, this is not a super expensive mic, so, honestly, the results are probably right in line with the cost. I just got so used to getting away with not paying much for a RODE mic and then getting great sound. Mind you, I didn’t have to pay for this particular mic, but the sentiment remains because I am aware of the price point.The positives are that it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and it does provide some directional clarity. So I could see this being a real boost if you are looking to live stream on a budget from noisy areas.Overall, it is not bad at all, it is just not quite what I’ve come to expect from the brand.

Plug and go! I initially ordered the Rode VideoMicro but it required a cable and a dongle so this was a little more expensive, but less cumbersome and works great so far! Really cut down on echo and background noise. The deadcat is HUGE! lol.

Tried various mics with my IPhone and IPad and either found them lacking or too complicated to use. The Rode mic works great. It’s not exactly “plug-and-play” because for it to be truly useful you need to download the MOTIV app which is from Sure, but it’s free. The MOTIV app is a simple tool that lets you adjust gain, which is crucial if you’re recording anything at a distance, like for instance a musical performance on a stage. The Rode mic works really well for this, as it barely picks up audience noise behind you, like waiters taking orders, beer glasses clinking, or silverware being dropped on plates etc.. This mic is big bang for the buck.
