The one-in 4-out MIDI thru box from MIDI Solutions sends all messages from the input to all 4 outputs. Active circuitry cleans up any skewing of MIDI data bits occurring at the input, ensuring reliable operation in setups that require daisy-chaining or long cable runs. The MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru is MIDI-powered and requires no batteries or power supply. A MIDI indicator LED lights up when powered, and flashes as MIDI data passes through.. Partial list products that have been reported NOT to provide power to the MIDI Solutions products: Alesis DM10, ControlPad, Micron, Q and QX series keyboards, SamplePad, SR18, Trigger|iO, USB-MIDI Cable, Vortex, Arturia BeatStep, Minibrute SE, Boss FC-50, GT-5, GT-8, GT-10, GT-100, GT-Pro, RC-50, RC-300, Dave Smith Instruments Mono Evolver Keyboard, Mopho x4, Prophet '08, Tempest, Tetra, Edirol UM-1 and UM-2 USB MIDI Interfaces, UA-25, Elektron Machinedrum MK1, Monomachine MK1, Focusrite Saffire, Scarlett, M-Audio Axiom Pro 61, Midisport 1x1, 2x2, 4x4 USB MIDI Interfaces, Oxygen 25, ProKeys Sono 88, Radium, Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6, Maschine MK2, Traktor Audio 10, Studiologic MP-113, MP-117, Numa Nano, Numa Nero, TMK 88, Yamaha 01X, AW2400, EZ-TP, GT1, GT2, i-MX1, KX8, KX61, MOX8, MOXF8, MX49, MX61, NP-30, NP-31, P Series keyboards, PSR275, Tyros5-76, WX7

This unit is a life saver. requires no power which is amazing, just remember there are older MIDI keyboards out there like the Roland A-37 that do not product enough power to power this unit. It's rare though!I've used it a lot and have NOT had issues with stuck notes like one might expect in the cheap merger. Really works nice. Don't drop anything on it, it's light plastic!

I play the Akai EWI-5000 as a controller with two MIDI synthesizer boxes. I was driving the second box from the Thru output from the first one, but it just went crazy. Plugging directly from the EWI to the second box it worked perfectly. I just received the Quadra Thru and installed it into my setup. Perfect! Both MIDI synths are now working with no problems. Just what I needed. I especially like that it doesn't need its own power supply, but is powered through the MIDI cable. Two thumbs up!

Used this for a MIDI controlled pedal board. The unit is powered by the MIDI loop switcher via phantom power, although I may have just been lucky in this regard, as others have found their devices do not power it. It seems to power up if any of the pedals are connected to it (Strymon, TC electronics). I gather you need 5 conductor MIDI cables for phantom power to work (some manufacturers use 5pins but 3 conductors)The unit does what it says in other respects. It is small enough to mount under the pedalboard. In this regard, however mounting options are not provided and I resorted to gluing the plastic casing and cable ties.A bracket, or even screwholes might be useful. The unit would fit snug between the rails of a pedaltrain board, but this would render the MIDI ports unusable.

I bought this to add multi midi outs from an iPad, but the iPad midi interface didn't have the power to operate the active midi thru box. I ended up running the iPad midi out into my one device that did have a midi thru jack, and then into this box...the thru from that device (a lexicon reverb) was able to power the quad 4 thru box. So as a note of caution, if all you have is an iPad and a simple one-out midi interface, this box might not work to provide multiple midi outs for you since the iPad will not provide enough power through the midi interface to power this thru box.
