This solenoid has crazy pull. It does draw a lot of amps when energized, be warned, but good for something needing a secure pull or push. It has a threaded shaft with a nut protecting the threads. It gets pretty hot when energized for a long time, but does what is made more and does it well.

This review is for the Push Pull Solenoid DC 12V 35mm Long Stroke Small Electromagnetic Solenoids Electric Magnet For Automobiles, DIY (DC 12V)This solenoid is not meant for continuous use, as some reviewers mentioned heat issues. It is best suited for quick pulses, such as for a locking mechanism. Know your application. It works well for my needs, and I would purchase it again.

I guess I did not pay close enough attention to the Ad because I was expecting a much smaller solenoid but am very happy to have this beast. It has a fairly long throw ( because it's largish ) and at the beginning of a stroke the pulling energy is fairly low. To overcome this, you can do what I did and drive it with two supplies coupled by a diode one of the supplies is about 60V and charges a capacitor through a resistor, this one deliveres the higher voltage stored in the capacitor which then quickly dies down to almost nothing on it's own but then the other supply through a diode, kicks in and supplies the remaining bulk current to pull and hold the piston in. A couple of power MOSFET's do the power switching.

There wasnt any amp or volt ratings over then 12 v. I tried every amp setting i had. The coil over heated and at over 230 degrees i pulled the plug. I need to have it energized for 1 hour and that didnt happen. Not sure what this is for . A push button then off. lol Careful what u use this for. it over heats fast.

This thing is straight out of a 1970s pinball machine. Throw 12 volts at it and it snaps open with a very satisfying "clunk," which would ordinarily signal a free game. In this case it'll be snapping open a tailgate. I have a ball chain around one end and the other around this solenoid. Clunk! And she's open. I might see if I can get my hands on a cheap linear actuator and see if I can automate the tailgate opening process like a modern car. In any case I can remotely unlock the tailgate which had given up the ghost years ago and the replacement part was more than the car is worth.

This is big, heavy and provides a lot of force. The total (unpowered length) is about 5 inches and it weighs over a pound. I tested it at 12v and it actuates correctly with 2 in displacement.
