I was a little concerned this slate might not be all that usable as is, but I found the included pencil wrote great underwater. You will definitely want to get a magic eraser to clean it, unless you really enjoy scrubbing, but I think that would be required for any slate. We used them on a divemaster training exercise over the weekend, and were very satisfied with the quality and usability of this slate.

Great product. Just received and tested it in my kitchen sink. The pencil could be better, but OK.I can confirm that Mr Clean Magic Eraser is the way to go for cleaning. Works like a magic indeed! I tried to clean using paper tower and soap first, but it did not work, the writing faded, but was still very visible. Magic Eraser removed the writing COMPLETELY, 100%.If for some weird reason ;-) you don't already have Magic Eraser, just buy one and keep it in the same bag with the slate. It's very useful cleaning pad all around the house/car. It's non-scratching and can get off tough stains with just a bit of water.

I've never gone scuba diving, yet, this is one of my favorite things ever!I hung it in the shower to capture those AMAZING, THOUGHT PROVOKING, BLOCKBUSTER ideas that spring forth every morning when I'm trapped in the shower without access to my usual "Bright Ideas" notepad. It's been a lifesaver; prior to using this, whatever I thought of while showering would *POOF* disappear out of my brain the second I stepped out of the shower. I lost some brilliant ideas that way. Sniff. This underwater notepad solved that problem and works great! Notes do not wash off with the water. The thing features a simple design and is subtle... I'm not sure anyone else using the shower ever noticed that it's even there.I haven't figured out how to erase my notes, though. I'm sure the product came with directions on how to do so, but I haven't tried it out yet.

It arrived on time (2 day free delivery), Pencil was attached by HiVis yellow lanyard. I test scribbled to see the clarity and the writing surface and was ver pleases with the quality and contrast. It has a snap connector that works well and is very simple to manipulate.I took this out to my Rescue Divers course the following weekend and it really came in handy. At -45' and 3-5' of visibly, formulating a plan to locate a missing diver, my new buddy and I had no problem communicating. We could have used hand signals of course, but this helped for accountability check and other details.Great price and Great Product as advertised. This is the one you want.Safe Diving : )

I am a SCUBA diver, but I am also getting back into swimming for fitness and triathlons. I use this for swim training. As part of my swim training, I am doing sprints and trying to keep track of my times. This slate is GREAT for that use.I put it on the deck at the end of the pool, then start my timed sprint. When I finish the sprint, I write on the slate the date, my sprint distance and time. Then I do another one, and another one, and another one. At the end of the workout, I transfer my times to my work out sheet/software to track my progress. The slate seems to use a regular wooden graphite pencil (included). This writes pretty lightly on the slate. It has been readable without too much strain pool side, but I am guessing it would be hard to read at any depth on a dive. For diving, I would strongly prefer a black grease pencil that makes very strong and easily readable marks on the slate. There is NO grease pencil included for this slate (although they are available separately and easily attached to this slate).

Needed a larger dive slate for mapping projects during my divemaster training. I thought the compass would be helpful, but I was wrong. This compass isn't worth crap, but that's OK. The board is fairly large, works well and the bright yellow cord seems to attract fish. They kept nipping at it while I was recording headings and distance. Good buy for the price, just use a real compass.

Great writing slate for the money and we recommend. Pros: good size, worked as expected while diving, fit in our BC pocket and clipped in pocket clip (perfect!). Cons: Wish it came with an eraser. We used regular eraser but would be nice if supplied with slate. But this would not be a reason to hesitate to buy this writing slate.

I was searching all over the Internet for a waterproof white board or something similar and found this. I gave it to a friend as a gift to write notes on while showering and it works fabulously. So if you come up with brilliant ideas while in the shower, this works to jot them down so you don't forget them. A Mister Clean Magic Eraser also works to get the pencil off the board- I make note of this because I had a hard time finding any information about how to clean the board after you write all over it.
