I bought this to replace a rental Mitutoyo. Functionally it seems to work just as well. It is easy to use. The device's menu took a little bit of practice to completely understand, as the menu items are sometimes a bit obscure, but all the functionality is there. The software also works well. The only downside to the software, aside from amusing mis-spellings, is that the point-by-point profile data is only down-loadable as a text file, instead of an excel file. This is not a big issue, but requires a few more clicks to load into excel for analysis.

I bought this roughness tester to use for checking honed automotive cylinders and it works great. Testing only takes about 30 seconds or so and accessing the data is very easy.The device comes in a nice padded hardshell plastic case with it and all of the extra stuff inside. The instructions that are included are ok and not too difficult to read and understand. I had it working and testing after about 10 minutes or so.The screen is large, bright and easy to read in a shop environment. It is touch sensitive and that works good too. The probe can be used either mounted inside of the unit or as a separate thing connected to the main box using a USB cable. The one that's included is plenty long and it allows me to set the tester on the side of my honing cabinet while I hold the probe inside of the the cylinder that I'm measuring.So far after using the tester off and on for a week while honing blocks I still haven't had to charge the battery.I'm happy with my purchase and so far its worked great for gathering the information that I need about the surface finish of the cylinder walls.
