I figured at a quarter of the cost of a Suunto, it was worth a try. This instrument seems to work pretty well, unless it gets really cold, in which case it freezes up and if you do fieldwork in the cold, that’s kind of an issue.

This has been quite handy for a trail building project I have been working on. It is letting me set a good slope of 8-10% for both hikers and bikers.Using it is pretty straight forward. First time using it, you'll want to turn the black eyepiece to let your eye focus on the dial inside. Then to judge a slope, look with one eye into the device and your other eye at an object in the distance. Line up the horizontal line in the device with the object and read the slope from the dial in either % or degrees.I offered a friend working with me to try it out, but he had some difficulty and said he has a lazy eye, so keep that in mind - maybe it would work with practice? The one problem is the strap. Others have mentioned that being attached at the top lets it fall in front of the eyepiece which is annoying. Another problem is that it gets stuck on the velco of the belt-pouch. That 1) makes it hard to grab the strap sometimes and 2) leads to the strap becoming quickly pulled apart and frayed looking, as you can see in the picture.

At about a quarter the cost of a Suunto, this is a pretty good deal. That said, the quality is not as good, and if it were being bought for professional use, I would recommend against it.However, for occasional use on an acreage to determine tree heights or slopes for earthmoving, it is more than adequate. Not bad for about $50.

Been using these for students for 3 years... Compact and accurate unit. Great for field work. Printing on scale isn't as crisp and easy to read as the industry standard manufacturers but at 1/4th the price that's easily overlooked.

Good deal for the money. I needed a % clinometer quickly and Suuntos were out of stock. I purchased this and it worked well. It is a bit blurry, and lanyard is on top making it awkward to handle. I have since replaced it with a crystal clear Suunto, which is much more pleasant to work with. Suunto and Ueasy are within 2% of each other. Ueasy is now a reliable spare, and it got me through a pinch. No regrets.

Doesn't have topo, so not a forestry tool, but for $40 while in college, can't beat it.

nice compact design but not calibrated and is reading 2.6 degrees off level - better to pay the extra money and get a Suunto which reads zero when it is level

This is NOT an altimeter. It is a clinometer, for measuring slopes and the height of things. Instructions were included (though plenty can be found online) . The build seems sturdy. The soft case (thick, ballistic-style fabric with velcro closure flap) provides snug protection when not in use. My interest is measuring the height of trees. To test the unit, I used the Ueasy clinometer to measure the height of a pole in my backyard. I already new the pole's exact height. I used the %Scale of the clinometer and took top and bottom readings at 4 different, known distances to the pole (horizontal distances were determined with a tape measure). The average of the 4, calculated heights was 3.6% taller than the pole's actual height (a 3.6% overestimate; good accuracy for a hand-held sighting tool!) and the standard deviation of the mean was only 2% (amazing reproducibility!). I've never used one of the more costly clinometers (costing 2 to 4 times more), but the accuracy, precision, and apparent quality of the Ueasy unit is MORE than adequate for my purposes. Recommended!!

this clinometer works fine. it's not the same quality as a $150.00 one but it works good for the price.
