I had never tried a hard pastel. I don't like the hardness, but that's just my opinion and does not reflect on the quality of this product. I have trouble blending these. But, you get a good assortment of rich colors. They were packaged well and shipped without damage.

Just as advertised, quite a few of the sticks were snapped in half but obviously still useable. Colors pop and they're easy to blend.

These sticks are harder and easier to control than the normal soft pastels while still be creamy with a good deal of pigmentations. I will consider buying more for sure.

I have recently begun using soft pastels, after doing commissioned art in just about every other medium for the past 15 years. These are wonderful and are so useful for the finer lines sometimes needed in a piece, as in the foreground of my picture. A lot of artists also use them for underpainting. This is a good value for a professional product.

i do quite a lot of pastel work and teach it too, i took a chance on this set and am glad i did. the colour range is pretty good, they're a harder pastel but still blend well, being thinner, they're easier to draw with (some makes are like a house brick) so they are good for detailed work. they come without wrappers which i prefer and being harder don't crumble/break as easily as the softer ones. a good value set, cheaper than many comparable brands.

Lo conseguí con descuento, por lo que resultó una compra excelente. A precio regular estaba más caro que entras partes. Fue un regalo para mi esposo y está contento con la calidad y variedad de colores.

One of the toughest decisions in getting started in soft pastels is you must make a choice in what set to buy to get started to even see if this medium is right for you. I'm still in my first year, but as I gain the opportunity to try lots of different kinds of pastels and how unique they all are I keep coming back to this set.1. They are clean, compared to most soft pastels, they make very little dust. There's still dust and dusty fingertips, but their hardness is helpful at first and is less off-putting to people who don't much like to make a mess with their art. (that's not me!)2. They are small. They allow you to easily make very small marks, something most people used to sketching will miss this with the size of regular soft pastels. You can hold them, and sharpen them like a crayon if you wish, making them feel more familiar to artists from other mediums.3. Because the rule with pastels is you must put your softer pastel marks on top of your harder pastel marks these make excellent sticks for making your underpaintings and backgrounds.4. If you watch YouTube pastel painting tutorials you will find that almost all of these artists have a set of these - proving they remain useful even to the professionals.5. These are the least expensive per stick for such a high quality color selection of any set. I have tried many of the lower cost sets and some I have given away to children, but not these, ever.6. They can create sharp dense lines, soft smooth strokes, they blend nicely together, the colors are lovely if a bit overly vibrant, I am always tempted to use their ability to create tiny marks to create my final highlights on paintings, but they are not best for this as they just don't lay down well on top of other softer pastels.7. You can use alcohol or even water to wet them and use them like watercolors. There, you just saved yourself 100% of the price because now you don't need to buy Caran D'ache.

Overall I'm fairly happy with my purchase. I'm frustrated however that the packaging didn't contain bubble wrap and some of my very expensive pastels are damaged. One appears defective and it really makes me question the authenticity of this product. For a hundred dollars, more caution should be used in ensuring the product gets to me undamaged. Thank goodness only 3 were damaged. I'll update with more pictures and information after I've had a chance to use them. So far though, I'm not too impressed. After a bit of use over the last few weeks, here's what I've observed. The color is pretty rich and they're easy to work with. They break waaaayyyy too easily and the foam lining they're surrounded by comes up easily allowing them to slide out of place. I haven't found a remedy for this yet.Overall pretty on par with prismacolor products and I can appreciate it as an art person.Color selection is pretty good except for oranges.I'd purchase them again.

These are really great pastels. Not only are they great for the experienced artist but they are also a great starter medium for someone who is inexperienced and would like to get dive in and get their creative juices flowing. i was curious about taking up painting with acrylics but i knew that it would, not only be a little expensive to get a good supply of paints, but there would also be the costs of canvases, brushes, etc. Also, living in new york I don't have a designated hobby space so buying these and some Strathmore Series 400 Sketch Pads was exactly what I needed to just start working with abstract color combinations. I'm so happy I did. The colors are rich, beautiful, fun to use and they also can be smudged with your fingers to add different shades and depth to your artwork. I ended up framing my one of my first pieces and it actually looks pretty good!
