I installed 10 of them in my home to replace the thumb latches on my doors. The doors are too thin for modern mechanisms, so I had to either settle for this, or really splurge on the very expensive cast iron reproductions. The included knobs are absolute garbage - Flimsy feeling and with a sharp seam. Plan on throwing them all away and replacing them with better knobs. The locksets themselves are somewhat cheap, but serviceable. If you have existing locksets of this style - repair them, don't replace them! Once you have quality knobs on, it feels much nicer. If someone really takes the time to inspect it, they'll see the lockset is a bit cheap looking, but real give away are the lousy knobs.Every single one had the spring inside installed wrong, such that the top screw near the door edge interfered with the spring. Fixing this is as simple as flipping the spring so the longer side is by the deadbolt - the short side ends just before that screw hole. You should lubricate the mechanism while you're at it too, otherwise the latch likes to bind up.If you need to reverse the orientation of the lockset, you can do that as well - Just flip the latch and the silver piece that the spindle passes through. Reversed, you'll have an extra screwhead visible on the lockset, but it's not a big deal. The deadbolt is just for show. It's not meaningfully secure in any way - you can actuate it with a slim flathead screwdriver. I didn't bother drilling my doors for the keyhole, and just ended up using the keyhole for a fourth screw in each lock. There's a little lock mechanism on the latch as well, which is useful for bathrooms and the sort.

Opening the lock and flipping the brass sliding latch component around takes 2 seconds and appears to work fine, but I found that when I tightened down the screws on the door it would bind up. I ultimately realized that inside you also need to flip the silver collar that the door knob rod goes through around too! It appears that it should work in either orientation, but it doesn't. Now it works perfectly. It was probably written down somewhere but thought I would share and save you some time. Other thing I didn't realized about these locks, is that if you lock it with the key from the outside then from the inside you have no way to unlock the door without another key. This seems crazy, my kids are going to lock each other in if I leave these keys around.

I bought this more my 100yo garage door, which curiously is thinner than most doors and previously had just a surface mounted lock on it that required a key to open it. In this application, I'm not using the lock functionality of this hardware, but used for the knobs and as a latch, it works great. It installed in about five minutes. I fully expect the lightweight knobs to begin rusting, as they clearly are not brass, and I've begun searching antique stores for solid brass knobs, which would easily fit the threaded shaft. But it also could be that once they begin to rust, they might actually look even more authentic. Most of the parts associated with this hardware appear to be stamped and clearly not as hardy as true reproduction hardware that costs 3-5x the price. For the $22 I paid for this, it does exactly what I need it to do.

I got this because I have 120 year old original locks on some of my doors and I wanted to add one to a newer door to fit in. I wasn’t impressed with these. The body is stamped, not cast. The inner parts ARE cast, and it works fine, tho I had to make some adjustments and lubricate the internal parts because the latch was sticking open.It functions and looks ok, but I think I’ll spend more on a quality version for any more doors I want to put locks on.

I bought this to replace hardware in my 120 year old home that I am trying to keep as original as possible. The knob that comes with the hardware is lightweight and flimsy. This is a great replacement piece - however doesn't feel as sturdy as the original hardware.

We have a century home where most of the locksets in our house are mounted on the doors instead of inside of them. We were able to replace 3 locksets and for 2 of them it worked out fine. The third one got stuck and we needed to take it off.

So easy to install. Well worth the money.Do undersatnd it is a mounted system not INSIDE the door. No need to cut into the door itself.I was replacing a very old identical mechanism.

Great replacement hardware set for an antique door. cheaper than buying originals at an antique store. No, it is not as solid as the original but it is solid enough in my opinion and for the price, if it breaks, just get another set.

Works well as a replacement lock (or parts to repair an old lockset) It is a bit delicate but if handled well and installed carefully it looks nice and will stand up to everyday use. I do wish it was made a little thicker or more robustly.

Perfect imitation of the antique look. Can be used for both left and right hung doors but left will go upside down. It still looks good though
