I was so excited when I saw this mini pumpkin shaped Dutch oven. I love Halloween and cast iron Dutch ovens so this was right up my alley. The handle is perfectly made for the weight of the lid. The Dutch oven has great heat distribution and self braises. This Dutch oven was also very easy to clean. I was very surprised with the size, it is smaller than I thought it would be, but it would be perfect for 1-2 people to make something (chili comes to mind for some reason) for dinner. I am going to use this to try to perfect making bread in a Dutch oven, which is something I definitely need to practice. I 100% recommend this, whether you display the Dutch oven and use it mainly in the fall, or use it regularly it will be a fantastic addition to your kitchen.

This cast iron pumpkin is not only a fabulous piece of decor but also a very substantial, and well-made dutch oven. It is the perfect display piece for any and all harvest-themed decorating. The pot is also ideal for cooking over a fire and perfectly sized for serving rounds of brie or cooking a wonderful stew for two. It does need to be seasoned before using for food preparation and like any cast iron, should always be fully dried after cleaning. Directions for seasoning are included & follow my traditional routine for doing so. Overall, really a fantastic piece at a great price - decorative & functional.

What I mean by old fashioned quality is the sort of cast iron they used to sell 80 years ago. (No I am not that old, but I had parents.) It wasn't as thick as today's major brand, and the finish was not as rough. This is a throwback to those old days, with more careful metal work. It's not super heavy.They used to have interesting shaped cast iron ware. Then it was just pans. Now we have the interesting stuff again. One slight drawback of the artistic shape is that you have to fiddle with the top to get it in the right orientation to put it on the pot. But the fit is very good, and yet there is no rubbing. It goes right on, perfect.It is not pre-seasoned. You are instructed to season it yourself, and instructions are given on how to do it the old fashioned way, with meat fat then vegetable oil. So-called "pre-seasoned" pots usually have some goop on them that's really to prevent rusting. You basically have to remove that to season them properly. This one apparently doesn't have that, or else it burns off during the seasoning process. But it's not pre-seasoned.

It looks just as depicted. It is nice and heavy with a great smooth finish. Feels like a high quality pot. I bought it to make big bread bowls for stews and chowder.
