My 1990 Jeep Wrangler suddenly lost spark, and the diagnostics are limited. The Jeep uses an old Ford Duraspark system from the 1980s, and I had already upgraded the coil and distributor cap. After testing I couldn't find anything wrong with the coil, cap and rotor, or distributor. I cleaned up some old wiring, but that didn't solve the issue either. By process of elimination that left the ignition module, which is mounted under the coolant bottle in the engine bay.My symptoms had been an intermittent loss of spark, finally with a no-start situation. Local parts stores were not helpful, so I ordered this module instead. After installation the engine fired right up. Interestingly, the original module from decades ago is completely filled with epoxy to cover a large circuit board. This new, modern module only requires a tiny fraction of the space for the circuit board, so the aluminum box is mostly empty, and there just to provide original mounting points.
