These are okay for hobby use, but are not as versatile as I had hoped. Ranging is very limited, but usable.

This is okay as an educational tool. It produces sine, triangle or square waves out to a little beyond 1MHz, though the amplitude starts dropping and the square waves are no longer very square as you approach the higher frequencies, as might be expected. The input power supply (not included) connects directly to the circuit, so any fluctuations or instability on your wall adapter or power supply will show up in the output. You also cannot adjust the DC offset, and the direction of the amplitude adjustment control appears to be backwards -- turning it clockwise decreases the amplitude. I realize that this isn't a professional instrument, but there are a few criticisms I have that fall into the category of basic quality that you expect when you purchase something: 1) the holes for the screws that hold the case together should have been tapped in the bottom plate, but were not; I was able to clean out the entrance to the holes enough so that the screws could create their own threads, but I couldn't even get the screws to bite otherwise; 2) the screws were not long enough to catch in the bottom plate enough to hold the case together securely; and 3) the sheet of directions that came with the unit looked like a 10th generation photocopy, so parts of it (including the schematic) were unreadable. Additionally, the thickness of the board and the pins sticking through it made it a bit too tall to fit within the case, so I had to cut off the pins to get the case to go together. I was able to get the knobs onto the pot shafts on my unit by lining up the teeth on the shaft with those on the knob, though I did have to press down somewhat hard on them to get them to go on. Overall, I think this could be a decent product, but the execution as it is leaves much to be desired.

I works just fine for me at 12v. It's not easy to dial in a specific waveform, but I didn't expect that. This is more of a teaching tool than anything. It could be useful for amplifier diagnosis where a specific frequency is not needed. One BIG CON - Oddly, the knobs provided will not fit! The pot shafts are not long enough to use the knobs with the case installed, but would work fine without it.
