I messed up my old micro torch, which was an Inter Forte torch and I didn't really like it anyway. When I got this torch, I liked all of the accessories, but I was more impressed with the ease of use. My old torch didn't hold the flame with the flame lock. This one works perfectly. It is easy to start, easy to control the flame, and easy to keep the flame on.

Works good. Looks just like many others I looked at that was cheaper but sometimes looks can be deceiving especially when you can't hold them next to each other. I wanted the accessories such as the catalyst heater and the storage case. The safety can be operated one handed and it can be left unlocked meaning while using the torch I can relight it without fooling with the safety. Others I have looked at is aggravating to use because of the design of the safety latch. No children around my tool box and I don't loan out tools to most people and I can set the safety to prevent the gas from turning on by accident in transient. I use it mostly for shrink seal crimp wire fittings and soldering PL59 VHF radio antenna connectors.

It is a very cool little gadget indeed. If you are looking for something like it but are wondering about how good it works then IMO its legit. This is NOT some novelty cigarette lighter; its a serious tool. I have so far used it on automotive bolts that were thread locked. Bolts came out lime butter. Im sure its also effective on anything else that needs a 2400 degree jet 2 1/2 inch jet of flame on it. Its super light, handsome, and easy to use. The only flaw I can see is that once you click the trigger; its on. No off switch. You have to turn off the gas to shut it off. So dont drop it in your lap. I see this as only a 1/2 a star flaw, because conversely its also a very easy to hold in tight spaces without having to hold a trigger or button. So I gave it 5 stars. Its very good. Price was right too. I paid $60 for the kit.

I have power probe's other solder tool as well. They are both good enough to use and they both work great. I do prefer this one more than the other.This solder torch kit is a must for any soldering need. The kit comes in a blow molded box that stays close with a snap tab. The torch is held in your hand like a pistol grip and comes with a flat plastic bottom housing to stand the torch upright. Leaving you to use both hands to work with the wires &/or solder if working on a table. The stand is also helpful when you want to put the torch down without the tip touching something to burn.The handle of the torch is diamond texture and is where the butane is stored and is filled at the bottom of the handle. Self igniting system gives it a quick start to get the torch going. Choose your adapter (knife, pointed tip, blower, angle flat tip, heat shrink) to your need for soldering or the blower tip for hot air gun. You can also set it up to use it like a torch having a flame to heat up the part to aid in removing or installing. I've only used the flame once to help loosen up a nut on a tie rod and it worked. I did not check to see how hot the flame was. Power probe does claim it gets up to 2400°F.The torch has a lever control for temperature and a push button for the ignition. Moving the lever to the left will allow the butane to flow and pushing the button will ignite it. After a few seconds, move the lever all the way right and then move it back to the left to your desire temperature setting. In a minute or two is ready for use. When you are done, simple move the lever all the way to the right to turn it off. Sounds confusing? It really isn't. Once you start using it you won't have a problem. The instruction is on the inside (sticker on) of the lid even though the picture doesn't show it. At least that's how the one I got is.The kit also includes rosin core solder. It is a good type of rosin that comes with it. I haven't seen a problem with it yet. But, I do recommend buying a roll from kester. I found their solder to be one of the best out there. And a brass sponge to clean the tips when your done using it works great for cleaning.The kit is of great quality and is made of metal. Feels durable and looks good on its own. If you're a picky chooser when it comes to a solder gun and would like the convenience of no cables. You can't go wrong with this kit from power probe.

I very much like how this Power Probe MTKIT01 Micro Torch performs and how it feels in your hand. The torch is well made and has excellent flame adjustment capability. I have bought and used larger torches for doing home plumbing copper pipe soldering but this is the first small torch I have ever bought or used before. I have wanted to buy a small torch like this for years to work on boats and trailer light wiring. I have seen these type torches used on car and motorcycle TV shows when wiring is being done by a pro. This is the right tool for the soldering wire job. I decided on this torch both on reviews from other people and the fact the photos appeared that the torch was well made and after I received the torch and used the torch confirmed the photos were right the torch is well made and quality construction. Also very important to me is fact it came with a hard case so when I need to use this torch not only will I find the torch but also have the accessories that come with the torch have compartments in the case for the accessories. Believe me I am all about doing research and reading reviews before buying just about any product but I would not hesitate to recommend this torch to any of my family or friends. Enough reading... buy this torch.

I have never used a torch of any type before, so am still trying to "carefully" learn my way around. As far as the torch, it works exactly as described. I've been using Ronson gas and all's been well...with the torch. Not so wonderful with the user's use of the torch - the success rate of joining items is rather sorry; that's on me. But because this torch does function very well, as I see it, it is a great choice for people who want a quality soldering torch, but for, too, newbies like me who are looking to learn and advance to serious brazing or welding. Some guidance in the use of this particular torch - a dvd would be great, or an on-line video - would make this item stronger as a choice. However, the torch is fine, works as advertised...but some guidance would really turn the corner. The lack of guidance is the reason for my four-star rating.
