The little clips are firm, but not brittle.I think a lot of people buy these to hold the tip area of the cue stick while the butt end of the cue stick is below in it's own separate holder. I didn't have a bottom holder so I just attached the clips low on the wall and turned the cue sticks upside down and pushed them into the clips until they were firmly held. I was worried that if I pushed the upside-down cue sticks down into the clips too far, they might break, but no. Firm, the clip is strong enough to hold an upside-down cue stick by itself, but not brittle.You just need at least a 1.25" screw to attach the clips to a wall. I suppose a nail would do, although a screw being wider than a nail would hold the clip to the wall without spinning.
