The check valve is not spring-loaded and therefore does not close on its own. This product ends up pushing water back out of the main nozzle and is terrible at sucking up grit. I love the size and convenience of this product, but cannot recommend it due to its inability to function properly.

This product has not worked from the get-go. It just spits out all the debris back into the pool, regardless of how the instructions tell you otherwise. Poor quality, design, refund process. The company’s “restocking fee” was nearly as much as the product itself. $3 refund on a $25 purchase when returning! Don’t save yourself some money go elsewhere!!

When the spa vacuum works, it does everything I need it for. The issues I have had are:1. Latest unit I recieved - one of the two check valves was too tight to move. I replaced the valve using one from my prior broken unit. (Or else you would have needed to heat the valve leg to deform it slightly to allow it to move freely)2. The rubber bulb will not last forever, expect a few years of use before it tears.3. The debris screen works but could be secured better.

I was impressed this actually worked. I have a best way saluspa St. Moritz inflatable hot tub. It takes a few times to get the hang of it. When you squeeze the bottle to start the suction, do it away from the debris you are trying to suck out, otherwise it will blow it all over the bottom of the spa. Once you squeeze it, keep it squeezed until you position the product over the debris, then let go, it sucks it right in! It can be tricky to keep the 2 pieces together as if it’s not lined up properly and fitted, it will come apart under the water, but for me the debris stayed on the bottom of the bottle. It does work well but it takes awhile to clean my spa as it only picks up about 1/2-1 inch area at a time. Works great for sand, tiny pebbles/sediments, pine needles, and any other small debris that sit at the bottom of a spa.

If you follow the instructions (or watch the YouTube videos) it's simple enough to use and it does work to hoover up small debris at the bottom of the hot tub.Any debris is kept inside the bulb and trapped at the filter from re-entering the water. To clean it simply unscrew and rinse down the filter. On the down-side it does seem rather over-priced!Recommended though for a tool that's conveniently small and does the job.

This item won’t connect no matter what we do, multiple people have tried many times and it just won’t stay together. Can’t even get to the stage of collecting any grit because it all just falls apart! Totally useless and a waste of money.

This would be worth maybe $5. It has terrible suction and if I squeeze it hard enough to get a decent suction it falls apart. The mesh filter screen falls off constantly. The majority of the time when I squeeze it, all the mess is sucked up just comes right back out in the spa. I was really hoping this would work as I didn’t want to spend a ton of money for a small four person spa.

Dont bother with this product. It is way too small, cheaply made and does not even remotely work. What little it did pick up was quickly pumped back into the water when you squeezed the bulb to prime it for more suction. On the up side my youngest child likes playing with it and pretending to help me clean the pool. A siphon or pump action vaccuum is way better suited for a regular hot tub or swim spa.

Who knew that a hand pump pool/spa vacuum could elicit such a strong, positive emotional response? We put together a makeshift sitting pool using a (thoroughly cleaned) 300 gallon agricultural tank, but noticed a little bit of grit in the bottom after a month or so of regular, daily use. Because it's grit, the skimmer wasn't picking it up.Enter the Grit Gitter. The price is right, the colors are spunky, and the little foot at the end looks like a claw which we lovingly termed The Chicken Foot. This couldn't be easier to use and it is so wonderful at doing is job that I find myself a bit bummed that there's not more grit to git -- I mean, get. Check out the photos showing the fineness of the screen and the grit it picked up inside. If you have a spa or a small sitting pool, this is ideal for maintenance while you're sitting in it. The manufacturer also sells a reaching pole for it so you can use it from the outside as well but I've found it only on the manufacturer's website and not here. This little Chicken Foot end picks up all the grit down at the bottom! This beats any doubly expensive tool and it's so fun to use that you might find yourself dumping sand in your water just so you can use it more often [NOT RECOMMENDED!].

I bought this for one reason: to suck up the occasional small amounts of sand which works its way into our hot tub. Since I don't mind scooting around on my hands and knees while I'm in the hot tub, this looked like a simple, low-tech way to address the problem. I am pleased to report that, for this limited purpose, the device works very well. It is ingeniously designed to suck up the grit but keep the dirt and debris from escaping while you are using it (at least until it gets full......more on that in a moment.) So, if you have a hot tub and want to rid yourself of a SMALL amount of bottom-dwelling debris, this little device will do the job. The only thing which some people might find at least a little annoying (not me) is that you have to empty the device fairly often. I have an 8-person hot tub which had a small amount of sand and debris on the bottom, and I probably had to empty the device 10 times. Since it only takes 10 seconds to unscrew the top, toss out the water and debris, screw on the top and get back to cleaning, this isn't a big deal to me. (If you don't clean the device frequently, you'll find that after about ten "sucks", you will lose some debris when you squeeze the device to make the next pick up.) The device also works best on stuff which is laying on a hard surface. While it can be used for stuff floating or suspended in your water, you might "chase" the debris before you suck it up.I've seen some people ask whether you can use this on an actual swimming pool, and my advice in that regard is clear: Unless you are a Buddhist Monk and are accustomed to building sand castles one grain of sand at a time, you will find that cleaning an entire swimming pool with this device to be maddening. While it is effective in SMALL areas, it will take you several weeks to cover the entire bottom of a swimming pool.

I had sand and other particules at the bottom of my SPA and was hesitant to buy a powered vacuum cleaner (very expensive) or this manual one. I am not disappointed, it works great. It's more work for sure but it works :) and it saved me big bucks !
