I bought my first above ground pool for my three and four-year-old grandchildren. They are only three and four, so I bought a small 4 x 7 x 2 foot pool. I needed a way to clean the bottom; although the top is easy to skim with a net, and it is covered when not in use, I noticed the bottom was collecting slippery algae, dirt from little feet, toys thrown in, etc. These children don’t swim yet so I don’t want them to slip under and get scared. I did use chlorine but clearly still needed a vacuum. I don’t have a place to plug in a filter pump so I purchased this water broom.I was intensely disappointed. The batteries were easy to put in, but turning it on is an insane chore. If you turn it to the left or right to turn it on or off, which requires a body builder to do, the basket that contains the filter falls off, but there is no other way to turn it, you need that leverage, especially when wet. It is very hard to do under normal circumstances, and I’m sure the kids learned a new swear word when listening to me trying to turn it off. When I fractured a finger, it became impossible. Even my husband is unable to turn it off or on easily. Believe every review that says it’s hard to turn off and on, because it’s harder than that.I honestly don’t understand how this thing is supposed to work. It has two very tiny little filters, one for big leaves and one for small things, and while it will suck up a few leaves and bugs, it doesn’t suck up much more than that as there isn’t room. Plus, the water comes back out of the side so any dirty water spews right back into the pool. It might look nice while you are sweeping it, but in reality the dirty water is swirling around and will settle as soon as you are done. This was a terrible purchase. It might be fine for a tiny plastic kiddy pool, (maybe) but not for my tiny above ground pool.I am upset when I buy these big sized things because I never am able to send them back once used, but I do want to warn people not to buy this. At least try one of the ones with the bigger filter because this tiny little filter thing won’t even clean my tiny little pool.I have had to drain my pool three or four times this summer just to get it clean enough for the kids to be safe. A chore in itself as it still leaves a foot of water so you constantly have to push the dirty water out. As I said I do use chlorine and I have used algicide. I’m a former fish keeper so I understand water. This broom just doesn’t do the trick, only water changes. I just wish I had an outlet for a filter pump.Nothing is all bad so I will say the battery life is good, and the batteries are well protected from the water. Suction seems ok but since it spits the water back into the pool like a house vacuum without a cannister, I’m not sure if it matters. Um…I guess that’s it. Don’t waste your money. I do not know why this has any good reviews. I bought the updated one, maybe the old one was better?

The performance is nice it removes leaves, dirt, and bugs. It’s easy to assemble and use. The handle stability could be a little more sturdy but it can be replaced with a better handle. Decent size for an above ground pool.

Doesn't work as well as I thought it would. For how much it costs. Try and find another vacuum. Complete waste of money for a poor end result. Smart idea but terrible results.

This vacuum is great for cleaning up bugs and leaves from the bottom of my inflatable kids pool. It does not collect sand and dirt, as the mesh is too porous, but collects larger debris very well. The handle system is easy to construct and is stable while vacuuming. Requires batteries which I will remove during storage for next season.****EDIT****I was mistaken. I was wrong. Turns out the vacuum comes with TWO filters, one porous with larger holes that can easily collect leaves and big debris, and one that is basically t-shirt fabric (jersey cotton almost) that collects sand and smaller bugs that the big hole filter does not. When you use both filters the suction isn't as good but it catches nearly all of the dirt and debris. Soooo....use the correct filter and the vacuum works VERY WELL. Luckily I found the original packaging which had the other filter, which I hadn't noticed when I first opened it.

- it could use some work on the power switch. The instructions on the use of this vacuum were easy and straightforward. It has excellent suction and a very easy to clean out filter, including a fine mesh stretchy filter to go over the netting which has bigger holes and may let debris through. Using this tool with the extra mesh insert though, I have had great results in my above ground pool. The only downside would be the twisting motion needed to turn the vacuum on and off. While in the pool trying to clean, it is difficult when removing from the water to power off to twist the unit with wet hands. The molded in grips are just not enough for me. I have to carry a small kitchen towel to leave on the side of the pool so I can grab it and use it to grip the device well enough to turn it off,.Even so, I highly recommend this pool vacuum.EDITED 2024: So this vacuum lasted 2 years. I ordered a new one, hoping against hope that there might be a redesign or at least be easier to twist, but it’s not. Now I can’t turn it with a towel. I have to use an adjustable pipe wrench I keep by the steps to the pool to turn it both on and off. I may try another product in the future. Just be aware.

This tool is not designed to remove large amounts of leaves and debris from your pool. For that job there are better tools. It is however an excellent and easy to use tool to remove light debris, small amounts of sand and silt (with the included filter) and leaves that tend to accumulate daily in my pool. I use it everyday and it only takes about 5 to 10 minutes to completely remove any debris that has accumulated over night. The best tool to have is the one you will use often...and this tool is so simple to use, clean and maintain, you will find it very easy to do those necessary touchups on your pool on a regular basis. Cannot rate it high enough for the job it is designed to do. I also like it uses 5 D batteries - easy to change and I use mine several times a day (for the last month) and so far the batteries are all still in the green zone on by battery tested. Buy 24 or 48 D amazon batteries and you are set to go for the season.
