I have used the cone method in the past and struggled. Someone told me about this and got it for the rest I had to do and was a breeze. Don't know how I've survived without it. Threw the cone out!

This is a great tool that makes installing joint boots easy. You'll need to have the expandable kind of boots, but if so, this lets you easily stretch it out and install it, without a struggle. The tool is well made, and works great. I've used split CV boots before, but that's not really as solid as a whole piece. This is the better way to do things, and this tool makes it much easier and doable. It comes with four air hose adapters so you can use it with any compressor.

This tool is designed to work with flex boots , which are generally an aftermarket item . Not for use with more rigid oem boots . So it’s a trade off . Quick replacement boot with questionable durability or more involved CV axle removal to install oem boot . There are valid reasons for both methods , choose wisely.

This does not work with standard replacement boots. I've come to realize that it only works with boots that are specifically designed to be used with this type of tool or a cone tool. I have several standard boots on hand in my shop, this expander will not stretch any of them. So if you prefer to use OEM or name brand aftermarket boots, this tool is useless. I don't want to be stuck using universal fit flexx boots that never really fit properly and are of questionable durability. For me it's worth the extra labor to disassemble the axle and install the correct boot. I'm still going to give it four stars because it does seem to work, but they should be more clear in the description that it only works with a specific type of boot.
